Not damaged (yet) but was the only advisory. Asked how much it would cost to replace and was quoted about £30 for the part (though, yeah go ahead) and £200+ labour
That's the dealer price but not sure how much it would cost and if you would trust your local garage to undertake this sort of job.

Bread and butter for any local garage - probably more so than the dealer! It's a bit of a git on a hydraulic X7 reportedly as you have to undo almost everything on the front suspension to make enough room to get the shaft out of the hub - which probably accounts for the labour charge - 2 hours at £100 / hr dealer rates. I would expect the kit to be £10 aftermarket, and 2 hours labour at £50/hr brings the job out at not much more than a ton, which is more palatable!

Get one of the split gaitor kits and diy it. I've done 2 now, no problem. Cost about £15 eBay.

I put two onto my pug 205, easy enough done. Cut them to the correct diameters, you will see what I mean if you get one to try, then glue it together around the driveshaft, fill it with grease, slide over the cv joint. I found it easier using cable ties instead of the supplies clips. Used the clips for the first one, a bit fiddly, tester suggested cable ties as the second burst between first test and retest which was a bummer.just need to have clean hands or gloves doing the glueing, if you get grease on the surfaces being glued they won't work. Try searching eBay for universal cv joint boot. I don't know how to link things on with the phone

I keep hearing/reading about these split gaiters but never found any.
I took the the easy way out - & just replaced the driveshaft (bit of an education the 1st time, but nothing compared with fiddling with gaiters: just done the track rods on the C15 - & even that was a struggle).
The other side needs doing now (or will do soon) so, as I need to replace the hub carrier that side anyway, I'm going to let the MoT station do it at the same time.

I tried one once, a complete disaster but then anything involving me and any kind of adhesive always is...
I still prefer a cone and a stretchy gaiter...
