Xantia TD Estate Rear Brake Caliper Covers

Post by ecohouse1 »

Hi Folks

I was servicing the rear brakes on my TD Estate on Saturday and the covers over the pads (retained with the long thin bolt) are lace like in their decreptitude. I looked on fleabay for replacements and a couple of sellers have pictures of lovely shiny new covers, however state that they are only suitable for the saloon. I know that the estate uses larger pads, so I presume that the cover is also larger? Out of interest do the rear brakes suffer with this cover missing or holed?

Many thanks

Alan

Yes, they are considerably larger..

As long as you maintain them well and regularly I see no great issue with running without them but then again, they're not hard to make from a bit of thin steel sheet...

Thanks Jim, I was thinking of fabricating a couple from car body steel but saw those on ebay. To my shame, I hadn't looked at the rear pads since fitting them 4 years and 45k miles and they were remarkably OK. The thin retaining bolt was a bit reluctant to turn but came off with plusgas and the pads stuck a wee bit but slid out without too much force. Discs were nice and shiny though. Next time I have the rear wheels off I will get out the tin snips! Cheers

Part number 96 036 382 I believe, £2.80 inc VAT from Citroen. That each so will leave you to decide if £5.60 for a pair is cheap or not, and I guess it depends how far you are from a Citroen dealer.

Whenever I did any work that entailed taking off a rear wheel I tried to get some cooper slip grease onto the threads, so I shouldn't have any difficulties when I HAD to work on the brakes.

Replaced the caliper covers (originals) on my hatchback just before Xmas. Total £3.55 from local Citroen dealer, though had to be ordered.

Wow at that price its hardly worth messing around with tinsnips. I'll call the Citroen Dealer to see if I can get a set ordered. Thanks for that.

I ordered the covers for £5.90 although the helpful parts chap said that they were on back order. He hopes they will be in within the next week or so.
Cheers for the info.
