C4 vts 2.0hdi gear stick throw

Post by Nicholas221078 »

Hi.
Recently got a 2.0hdi c4 vts.love the car but after a week the clutch slipped the garage I got it from chaged the clutch etc.
But I'm just wondering if it's normal that when the cars in 2nd 4th or 6th you can pull the gear lever back another half inch to and inch.
It does spring back where it should be as it seems to be under tension.
The car drives fine and gear selection is spot on I just don't remember being able to pull it back that bit further before.
Any ideas wether it's normal or a fault.
Cheers

Can't remember anything like that on my petrol vts, but it was a totally different gearbox. I had a 2007 c5 2.0hdi which I would suppose was the same set up you have, the change was fine but there was a wee bit of movement when in gear but not enough to think there was anything wrong at all.

Thanks
There's no side movement I'n gear or any other movement it's just the fact in 2nd 4th and 6th you can manually pull the lever back more but if you let go the stick does go straight back to the nattural gear position. The garage that did the clutch have said they will look at it but they state they only did the clutch etc and poppedal the cables off and put them back on.I think it's confused them too

It's probably been like that before and you never noticed.

It's always the same. Notice something minor wrong and it bugs you forever [emoji4]

Mine is the VTS petrol (so 5 speed box) but I tried this today anyway. The lever won't pull any further once in gear (any) but you can easily pull it back towards neutral a bit. Probably doesn't help you at all, but it's the thought that counts!
