The throttle butterfly should have a small amount of clearance when closed, otherwise it would stick in very cold weather due to differential expansion. I have had this on an injected jag where the butterfly stop had been wound back too far.

As long as the air leakage is small enough that the ICV is still in control, then it is OK.

FYI,

Air intake seals (intake chamber to engine intakes, 00348L5 x2) for the V6 engine are NFP..........

That's a bit unhappy-making, especially as I really need a set..

It's getting slightly worrying just how much now is going NFP for the V6.

Having said that, with care and the kind of gaskets they are - steel with squishy O rings - they are reusable...

The V6 and 24 comes from the engine cover, I am reworking this (to original spec/colour) as it is a bit scratched up so they had to come off that.
I now need to think how to do to that :)

The small aluminium chevron badge is from a Key fob

Below are examples of the deep contaminant pits in this casting...the alloy is PANTS and very thick but it is up to the job. As it is not really significant and was not designed to be polished so I cannot see any problem with it being used to be fair.

Image

This shows how deep they are, I have flat sanded the top to reshape/square-up and even with this there are loads of pits that need taking out by hand
Image
This was taken as I was working in the deep areas. Again, the casting seems to have a lot of body here so I was quite free in going in with a metal burr and stones to open it up and smooth it visually, it makes the next stage MUCH MUCH easier to fine polish with a small flap burr (insert a wet/dry strip into a long split pin and insert in a drill) and sanding sticks. (Obtain from Finger Nail supplies....great things and cheep)

Internally it is quite horrid with mismatched shape between the inlet/throttle body, flash and thick raised mould seams, the normal flaws with production castings. Now I have the seals/gaskets I will start the reshape/matching of that next back to the manifolds/throttle body. I only plan to smooth 60/70mm deep into the chamber as well as knife edge the internal bank/air splitter.

I wonder what the output will be once it is completed. With all of the airflow etc., being smoothed, I would not be surprised if there was another 10 - 15 HP over standard! Being a bit of a pedant though, the chevrons are up the wrong way!

If the rest of the engine bay looks as good as that lot you will HAVE to find out about getting a Perspex bonnet. Then take a trip down to where all da wide boys be wid deir Hot Hatches, and blow their minds with a car that can outperform their (probably), looks a lot better (definitely) has a greater height travel range (certainly), and still be useful as a proper car!

I could not stand all the Barry Boys asking what it is and if I put the "Hydarollics" in myself, or if I can make it dance like the Yank cars can :)

With the level of comfort the suspension has as standard, a Xantia (in any form) is probably one of a few cars that can use big rims without inflicting back problems on its occupants.
