Brake fluid.

Unread post by qprdude »

Just noticed the brake fluid level is about 20mm below max. Not a problem I know, but I'm off up to Stoke tomorrow and would really like to get some dot4 to take with me. No sign of any leaks anywhere obvious certainly nothing on the lockblock driveway . Could be weeping somewhere but a quick look shows nothing. Seems to be a lot of different brands and prices. Is there any advantage in paying top dollar, or is the cheaper just as good.

That will be your brake pads being low.....change will be due soon, mine drops to the Low level line when worn then back up to Level when I changed them just before Christmas....if you top up, it could/will spill when you put new pads in.

On a normal road car, you're very unlikely to notice any difference between brands of brake fluid.

OK. The pads will have to wait a few weeks. Nothing wrong with the braking, and I'm not really hard on brakes normally. These have been on since I bought the car in July 2012.

LOL, they have done well.

Just check the thickness, you can see through the wheels

I'll probably get a price from a local Indy. There is on in Weybridge, which is about 10 minutes away. Unless someone knows another one? Not priced the parts yet.

I would fit OEM Pads over after market personally, not cheep but they last for you so over 3-5 years, good value :)
Indi should fit them in about 15-20 mins

Too rich for my blood. Wasn't thinking of discs unless absolutely necessary. Skimmed the ones on my last car but I'm not in engineering now so hoping discs will do for now. I am expecting to hear the short intake of breath and " fraid the discs are knackered sir," anyway, hence the use of an Indy rather than a dealership.

Faultless run up to Stoke and back. Crappy MPG though, but I wasn't hanging about. 44.4 up and 41,0 back.
