An aptly named Engine for December 16th, 362 years on, and a semi-random link with the Pickled Egg Seasonal Jukebox

That Neil, is one gorgeous picture of Oliver Cromwell...

The old Britannia Pacifics were fantastic locomotives...

Looks like it's hauling a TPO (Travelling Post Office)...

That picture is my new desktop wallpaper :)

Intersting pictures from amateur photographer Steven Drury can be found here. He has a gallery on Panorimo here

Oliver and the Travelling Post Office are resident on the Great Central Railway based in Loughborough.

and the link with the PE Seasonal Jukebox........my starter for ten on the freshening up of the juke box tracks for the festive season......the "Night Mail" poem from WH Auden, from the film "Night Mail". Yes the PE jukebox is no ordinary juke box....its the only one ever to have a poem as one of its tracks, although there is a bit of atmospheric discord from the pen of Benjamin Britten as a backdrop to the rhythm of the words.

Just looked at Steven Drury's page Neil, some good stuff there :D

Auden's Night Mail is one of my favourite Poems... Used to live in Auden Close many years ago... Named after him, as were all the roads in that locality - the Poet's Estate...

If you're railway buffs this might interest you, I've visited twice while in the area, also their Ellicott City branch station museum. http://www.borail.org/

Those US Streamliners are an awesome sight as were/are our own. There's a nice youtube video of "Bittern" in a lovely blue LNER livery on a tour of Cumbria in 2014.

This is a shorter one, for steam and smoke lovers :-D

This little mememto from the event was symbolically taken to the Moon on the Appollo 11 mission, 66 years on from the first pioneering steps..

I liked this little "fact" about the moon landing. Just imagine returning to the lunar module and realising that you couldn't start it :!: :!: :!: .
After gathering some Moon samples, taking some pictures and raising the American flag, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin returned to the Lunar Module, only to realise that a switch on a crucial circuit breaker had broken. This particular broken switch left them without a way to ignite the engine, so they tried to sleep while the mission control team at NASA tried to find a way to repair it. Eventually Aldrin decided that enough was enough and jammed his pen into the mechanism creating a make-shift switch. Surprisingly enough this quick-fix worked and launched both Aldrin and Armstrong off the lunar surface.

Saw one of these today scuttling across the the road and bounding into the heather. Not a common sight especially seeing as its been pretty mild even in Northumberland. Stoat in ermine!

Looks like a cat that's lost its ears...

A Weasel wearing its winter coat, even though it doesn't need it at this time... yet...

I quite often see them driving to work in the mornings although they could be Stoats...
