Was there a Xantia V6 Estate?

Post by Zelandeth »

That's my random question of the evening...

Basically the usual "potential future fleet additions/changes" ramble was had this evening and of course the fact that a Xantia is now a pretty permanent fixture is a given. No plans of my current one going anywhere soon, but it's always interesting to look towards the longer term plans too.

We do however have a moderately large dog, so an estate would really be ideal He does fit in the boot of the hatch and lays down in there quite happily, but I really wouldn't want to cram him in there for a longer trip. Fine enough for ten minutes, but it is a bit cramped.

I keep toying with the idea of a V6 Xantia, so the obvious question popped up of whether there was ever a V6 Estate?

I certainly don't ever remember seeing or hearing of one, but that doesn't mean much. Guessing it wouldn't have been a big seller given that estates usually are the more practical rather than performance orientated versions, so probably never happened.

...If I had the resources, that could make an interesting conversion project!

There were Xantia V6 estates but only LHD.

I have seen them for sale with either manual or automatic transmission, SX, or Exclusive trim, but only Mk 2.

They do seem to be very rare though, they only come up for sale a couple of time a year in France. Maybe they sold better in Germany?

There's at least one RHD conversion in the UK. It was at the NEC one year.

The conversion task would be more or less identical to converting an Activa.

Youtube has an example.....for a decent nose around...although when the film eventually gets round the back its spoilt by the V6 emblem being missing.

Nice one in that photo, even the right colour...

Would think it would be simpler than the V6 Activa wouldn't it, Jim? Far less bespoke bits involved given that it lacks the Activa gubbins.

Still, pie in the sky really as I don't have anything like the resources to do it!

Zel, the conversion process would be almost identical. The Axtiva bits make no difference but if doing a non-Activa you have the option of automatic transmission which in fact would make the job easier if using a Xantia V6 donor...

Interesting, wasn't sure if there were bits of the hydraulic system that were unique to the V6 Activa hence needed sourced from abroad...should really pay more attention to that project than I have so far...

Reckon if I was looking for one it would be an auto.

Being honest though, if the right 1.9TD manual turned up I wouldn't complain either...
