Intriguing....

Martins Bank has a connection to Dad's Army due to the fictional branch of that bank in Walmington-On-Sea.

Martins Bank was taken over by Barclays in 1970 and Newport Pagnell has a Barclays branch which likely was once a Martins... We still have a Martins newsagents in the town...

I guess the mobile bank van was built in the Aston Martin works in the town?

I recall the Barclays Mobile Bank vehicle used to visit my work in the mid-70s.

Apart from that I cannot see any other common denominator...

Martins Bank was Aston Martin's bank?

Is the Martin half of Aston Martin related to the Bank? Family connection?

That Postcode is now defunct. It was the old Renny Lodge Geriatric Hospital and latterly an ambulance station before demolishing it all and building a housing estate on the site...

The area is still called Renny Lodge..

Apart from that, no idea!

Got it :-D (I think)

Also on that site was Coventry Steel Caravans and likely they did the bodywork for the Martins Bank Mobile bank..

Found this advert in the New Scientist on page 321 of the January 29 1981 edition..

I don't recall that firm being there...

Neil, I love these random links too :D

Yes you've got it Jim =D> =D> =D> :-D

Excellent bit of thumbing through your old collections of New Scientist up the attic until the answer popped out!

Coventry Steel Caravans supplied the coachwork for both. I could have put this up as another example of their work
1982 Pope Mobile........

This is parked right next to the Nissan Factory at Sunderland as an exhibit at a transport museum. Not exactly sure if the intention is to just let it disintegrate naturally.

On Sunday Guy Martin is on a program on Channel 4 about the last Vulcan. I believe he gets to fly her.

Well I heard today that Burton-in-Kendal Services on the M6 has had a make-over (hold the front page :!: ). Much to the annoyance of a friend of mine who was a regular user of the shower facilities there, and Lancaster Services have now become the "Showers of Choice", with the addded advantage of access Northbound and Southbound. So in tribute todays picture of the day is

Like it, its from a series of prints called

"Lost Destinations" plenty of other interesting locations like Preston Bus Station, Sphagetti Junction, Fylingdales, Stockwell Bus Garage, and Eel Pie Island Hotel etc
A series of nostalgic prints by Dorothy which take inspiration from the iconic travel posters of the first half of the 20th century, celebrating the unique but often forgotten beauty of buildings and places that were once destinations in their own right but have since been either demolished or immersed in the everyday.

A friend of mine was recently at a "ground-run" day with the Vulcan, and got lucky!
Yes, that right. I won the right to be in the cockpit for the start up procedure and even got to push no.2 throttle from 50% up to full power. How cool is that? You know what they say, more people have climbed Everest than have pushed a Vulcan throttle up to full power.
As you can see from the guages and dials, this was a live start up experience. So here's todays picture of the day.
