Re: The Pickled Egg-Enjoy the Vulcans national tour today!

Post by Hell Razor5543 »

According to the BBC Breakfast Show, it would appear that XH558 might still have a flight before the end of the month.

I remember reading somewhere about the first time she was shown at the Farnborough Air Show. The test pilot was Roly Falk. He was (apparently) told to show what the Vulcan can do. If my memory is correct, it went something like "He took off and straight into a slow roll. There it was, twirling around the sky like a bleeding Spitfire; the ATC nearly had apoplexy. They wouldn't let him do it again. Shame".

Absolutely beautiful!

I love watching the courtship flights of crows, for a "rough" bird they are very elegant. Like above, both are music for the eyes.

Yep, there will be another flight before the end of the month. Not this weekend though.

I sponsored the farewell tour, but ended up not being able to see any of it  #-o
Still, I saw her at Clacton air show and a fly over Newark showground earlier in the year, so not all bad.

One of the occasional Piclkled Egg punters, with a particular affection for the Vulcan, has booked in on a "Ground-Run" next week. Expects to be no more than 30 yards away from the Vulcan as all four engines are powered up, with a chance to get on board as well.

The Vulcan story continues, plenty of "merchandise" and also some surplus bits on e-bay including this which may be appropriate for some tasteful recycling.

Maybe could be made into a feature table to be installed in the snug, or maybe a constantly rotating feature at the end of the bar showing off the Pickled Egg's selection of crisps and nuts.

Well, hook up a decent motor (and possibly a heating element) and it could be a decent (and unusual) office fan.

The Pickled Egg is firmly behind this new campaign to encourage trade.

"Stuck somewhere with time on your hands....why don't you look in at the Local"

and of course there's nothing like a couple of the Country's finest showing their support for the campaign as well.

The Jukebox, A slight return:
Just discovered a new musician- reading a thread in The Straight Dope there was a reference and link to a Stones song. Followed that link, don't know why as I don't particularly care for the stones.
Had the sound off, son was in bed (nightshift) and was just watching.
Mick had Grace Potter with him and my initial reaction was that she was a bit trashy and trying too hard.
Hit one of the YT recs, got the headphones out, decided she wasn't as bad as I had first imagined although not the kind of thing that usually gets my interest.

After listening for a couple of hours I have decided I like her and her band, as well as the musicians she associates with.
And if you like the eye-candy (she is pretty good looking) the watch out for Cat Popper on bass, was in the band in the early days but has moved on.

I have disgraced myself today though.
After son left for work last night, switched the speakers back on. Listening again today with headphones on, quite loud, he burst in most unhappy - forgot to turn the speakers off. No wonder it was loud

Putting someone's playlist in as I am having difficulty picking one I like best, just too many.
List will kick off with her singing for Gov't Mule, Gold Dust Woman - it ain't Mac but it has a life of it's own.
She does some amazing covers and has so much energy.

Re: Washington Air Museum. Although I live close by (used to be able to see it from my upper windows) I haven't been for years - since Nissan moved in and obliterated the airfield there. It always was a bit sad and bedraggled though.
