Possible Scrap C5 2.2 Auto

Unread post by IHateMySelf »

Hey

I think I may have been duped into buying my C5 but nevertheless a good experience and have gained a wealth of knowledge about C5's in a very short period of time. I've been browsing Gumtree/Ebay and have found an auto diesel, one owner and 70k in stella condition and in the colour I wanted too! If I grab that over the weekend, then I'll be scrapping this one unfortunately. It really is not worth it, not at this mileage (140k)

It has HID headlights, cruise and climate control which is the only things it has over the standard one I think. If anyone is interested in these bits then you can grab them for cheap before I weight it in. I could break it over a few months but I don't have the space tbh.

Oh, and its in Silver just in case someone wanted cheap body panels. It also has five matching (ugly) alloys, two with newish tyres.

Don't scrap it, someone I here will probably take it on whole for more than it will scrap for.

Does anyone know which parts are aluminum on the C5? I know the wheels are but was wondering if there was anything else I can take for the scrappers. They've offered 1.25 a kilo just down the road which is a good price I think!

Well if I could get 200 from scrap, 50 in aluminum and 100 in parts, thats 350 which is a big loss in a week but oh well, lesson learned. :)

Just incase someone actually does want to buy it for some reason, here are the full list of problems with it:

Crack in windscreen but passed M.O.T
Pulls to the left - probably caliper or just alignment.
Sluggish upto 2000 RPM when cold.
Steering Rack makes clicking sounds.
Vibrates after 70mph - left wheel needs balance.
Rear Trailing Arm Bearing needs replacing
ESR/ASP deactivates @ 70mph
Seatbelt Pulley takes forever to retract
Left Rear Window does not go down (but you hear the motor winding up/down)
Front windows wind down when you engage wipers (lol)
Cigarette lighter is broken, however second 12V works.
LCD computer screen light not working
Drivers seat padding is crap, needs a new seat.
Tyre Pressure Sensors error message
Service Light Flashes (already serviced though?)
Fuel Addictive Low message
Anti Pollution Fault message (after 70mph)

Oh, and to top it all off, it comes with 12 months M.O.T.... with no advisories. :rofl2:

I don't know about where you are but where I am the prices of scrap is way down and a scrappy told me he would come and take away for free am old Renault I have here, or I would get £30 for it if I delivered it to him.

Bizarre - I posted a reply to this but it hasn't appeared!

So here goes again...

Depending on price, I could be interested in the HID setup and if you're prepared to hang on a d break, I might be interested in a few other bits (we can discuss off line - people will think I am mad! )

You may be offered 14p a kilo for clean metal. A car is different. If you take caravan panels with paint on them, you only get half the scrap ally value as they are contaminated. We will be heading back to where you will have to pay the scrap man to take a car. Some scrappies up here are not even taking mixed metal ATM.
Put the car on Gumtree. You may get £300 with your Mot. Never scrap a car with a long MOT. It is cleaner and less fuss to sell it.

I was thinking gumtree but realistically, would you buy this? Way to many problems which I am aware of and I won't lie about them so I know its not worth much... I'll check tomorrow for car scrap prices as I did mention it was a Citroen and weighed 1550kg etc, he told me 14p a kilo, so we'll see.

Oh, I just realised, it also has a towbar... I'm sure thats worth something?

LH electric mirror, is it silver backed? If so I might be interested, mine was damaged when I bought the car and I've never got round to fixing it.

Where are located?

The car is full silver and located in London, however I can simply ship the mirror out to you if you want. I think it would cost a fiver including packaging using Hermes or Yodel.

Thanks!

Maybe we should double check that it's the same mirror.
