That's a chunky old pushbike it's in.. I believe it was a frame especially designed for the job although any reasonably meaty frame would accommodate the Cyclemaster....
...bit more info on the picture Jim its a 1953 Mercury Cyclemaster
1953 Mercury Cyclemaster
This Cyclemaster was very well restored by its previous owner.
It’s a rare model, fitted with Webb front forks.
Mercury Cycle Co is an interesting company: they were owned by the British government and established to export bicycles after WW2. They did not supply bicycles direct to the public, but manufactured frames for the Cyclemaster company.

There was another class of pushbike 'helpers' around at the same time, small engines that sat above the front wheel and drove it through a friction roller...

Tyre wear was horrendous!!!

The Cyclemaster and Winged Wheel were vastly superior and in a different league completely..

I believe the Cyclemaster had a 32cc engine...
Tyre wear? What tyre wear? 5 minutes after using one and you didn't have any tyre TO wear!

I'm impressed with those motors. I thought bolt on engines and motors was a fairly new idea. The Cyclemaster looks neater than all the modern ones.

I just noticed that it seems to have the same front suspension design as the Whyte PRST-1, way ahead of its time.

You would see very little on a picture of the day from Northumberland today too much drizzle and fog, so heres a bit of colour.....another nice pair in my book.
