Citroen xsara gearbox

Hello guys, i need your help. My xsara gearbox broken and i need new one and i found who is selling 406 peugeot gearbox and i want to ask gonna it fit to xsara? Xsara and 406 have same engine 2l hdi 90 hp

Yes, they should both be BE3 type 'boxes and should swap but you may find the clutch cable brackets and other minor brackets slightly different but they'll transfer across no problem..

In what way is your 'box broken?

There is a big sound from gearbox and i lost 5th gear other gears are fine.

Oh dear! Sounds like you have stripped the teeth off the 5th gear pinions...

Are you going to strip the old 'box to see exactly what happened?

Some more peeps diagnosed same problem as you. Iam not sure i will strip old box or no depend on guy which will change gearbox because i dont know how. Also i want to know for example 406 2l hdi 110 hp gearbox also fit to my car or only 90hp? Also from what other cars fit gear box to me?

No, the 2l HDi 110 will not fit as these engines have the ML5 'box. This is a totally different one with a Hydraulic clutch..

The other potential donor is a HDi 90 Xantia or late 1.9TD Xantia... Again, the 110 HDi Xantia will have the ML5

The 1.9TD Xantia gearbox will be OK but has a slightly lower final drive ratio but in practice this will make no great difference...

This website shows how to strip a BE3 'box... If push comes to shove you may be able to get yours good again just by replacing the 5th gear pinions..
