I'm still a bit too sore and uncomfortable to even think about finishing this off tomorrow, and I have to go to hospital for an MRI scan on Sunday. The MRI unit here works 7 days a week here. Could anyone enlighten me, the 1.1 engine in the 205, is it the XW7, 1124 cc? Is the gearbox connected to it the BH3/5? Is the oil common to the gearbox and engine? I have been debating this today with my son in law he says that can't be. If I remember correctly the old Austin 1100 had a similar set up.

Davie, to positively ID the engine, a picture would be good...

But, going on year it'll be a TU with the MA gearbox...

The XW was the old Simca 'suitcase' and was replace by the TU in about 1988.

You're right about the 'suitcase' having a gearbox in the sump and sharing engine oil.. A bit like the old BMC 'A Series'

I know where I did go wrong. The early engines were the gearbox in the sump type, the later, post 89 ish are the tu and gearbox on the end. I was looking at the BOL but did not realise that there is a huge chapter dedicated to upgrades which covers this.

The boot glued together perfectly well, and then the jubilee clips on. Will it hold well? Time will tell. Will an mot man like it? Time will tell next Thursday afternoon!
