Does anybody want to save an Activa?

Unread post by Matt H »

I currently have three Xantias in my life, a V6, and two Activas. The ultimate goal was to eventually build a V6 Activa, and hopefully this will still happen in time.

When I bought my first Activa,I probably jumped in a bit too quickly, and spent a bit too much fixing it... It's pretty scruffy, the front ram has just started to leak and the heater hose broke (but the matrix is fine!) so there is no heater currently. My initial plan was to simply break the Activa for spares for the other, but I'm not sure I have the heart to do it.

I'd be willing to let it go for a reasonable amount, considering it's had a full set of spheres, new set of Continental tyres (about 3k miles ago - slightly worn on the front shoulders), reasonable full leather interior from an S2, 1 new front strut top (the other fine), new Activa rod bushes (the rods are pretty worn), new rear height corrector. new exhaust centre section plus various other bits...

The car was 100 per-cent reliable in all the time I had it, apart from the heater hose going, and the only time I've had any LHM leaks was from a perished strut return (both changed) and the leaky ram.

It could do with a new set of engine mounts, and the rev counter doesn't work! Engine and gearbox in good health.

It is still MOT'd until 26 September, and can be driven away...

I'd be happy to see it go to a good home. Alternatively, if someone wants to break it for spares - I'd be happy just taking a few useful bits off it (Rams etc).

The reality is, I'd love to do it. I've invested quite a lot in it already (I shudder to think, but at least £1500), however my blue Activa has half the miles and is a lot closer to the end result already... This red Activa really needs a full respray for example, unless I turn it into a track car

I currently have a BX 16v that is needing some love and attention, and this Activa is quite a long way down the priorities at the minute.

Maybe if I can find a lock-up/workshop for a reasonable cost I'll keep it. Decisions, decisions...

Matt ... that could've been me writing that post. Identical scenarios almost. Two non-running Activae, one running V6. Will i ever sort their problems out let alone consider a V6 Activa .. I doubt it yet still hang onto the cars much to SWMBOs angst. My S1 car is also in red and is virtually bereft of any lacquer now [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]. I keep it hidden behind gates, its an embarrassment unfortunately.

Quick somebody snap this up it is on ebay now at £355 not the cheapest that has been on there. Please don't let it go to waste. Wish I had the space myself but sadly working on two Activae myself. That is in between fixing the wives ford focus.

See if you can negotiate a deferred delivery. It doesn't hurt to ask.

See if he will take a deposit and save it for you. Anything is worth a try to save it from some nun nuts getting hold of it and running it into the ground and then scrap it.

That car looks like mine did until a few of months ago when unfortunately its clearcoat let go big time, like a snake shedding its skin, and is now, i'm sad to say, almost Post Office van red :(. If it ever sees the road again it'll need either a full repsray (how much i wonder?) or a full body wrap in a different colour cos i'm not struck on Dante Red :(

A good respray is expensive Mike...

I've thought about that as a potential way to get the deep yellow Activa I would love.... Cheaper than a good respray but still quite pricey.. I've heard the figure of £1500 bandied about...
