Can you shed a light on this problem?

Unread post by Fake Concern »

About a month ago one of the headlight bulbs on my daughters Clio Mk2 Ph1 blew, when I took it out the bulb was smashed to bits. The headlight seemed to have some water in it.

Today, the same bulb had smashed again & to make matters worse, the dip beam filament on the other lamp had blown as well.

I have replaced both & all are working, but I am concerned that the smashed bulb will happen again, any ideas what caused it?

I've heard that grease or oil from your hands on the glass can boil and cause the glass to smash. Never seen it happen myself though but I always hold mine with a clean cloth since I heard that.

I have also heard that & I like you make sure not to touch the bulbs with bare hands, so not that.
(thanks for the reply though!)

If the headlight unit contains some water as you suggested,Cold water splashing on a hot bulb will also cause the glass to break....With regards to the dipped beam blown,That is most likely a coincidence and not at all connected to the glass breakage problem.....The glass breakage ,if caused by the water contained in the headlamp could be condensation, but to be thorough I would check the headlamp glass seal.....hope this helps
