He wasn't trying. If you're seriously expecting me to believe that a 109 BHp 1.9 GR was faster than a 167BHP Mondeo - despite the official figures having the Mondeo 2 1/2 seconds quicker to 60 and having 24mph higher top speed, then you're having a laugh.

Likewise the Impreza. My 1995 JDM GC8C had 260bhp from the factory - standard. It weighed 1230kgs (that's 120kgs lighter than a Megane 225). Performance Car tested one in 1997 , 4.9 to 60, Again, if you're expecting it to be slower than an Activa weighing 1450kgs or more, with 70 less BHP... well, yes ok then. :?

Of course, mine was a standard JDM (import, Jap market only car), which had the shorter final drive, 45 more BHP and 40lbft more torque than a UK car. The official 0-60 is 4.8 seconds, 1/4 mile 13 sec. The acceleration through the gears was simply savage. It wasn't a pleasant car to be in, or drive, to be honest. It was a car built purely for performance. The interior was basic cheap early 90s spec Japanese plastic - as someone told me, "Subaru only put an interior like that in because they couldn't leave bare metal".

Even Autocar and Performance car got better figures on their own tests than the official Subaru figure for the UK spec car - Autocar dragged a 0-60 of 5.4 seconds out of a standard UK 215BHP *hatchback* with two people and half a tank of fuel in, PC got that down to 5.03 seconds with just one person and very little fuel in - that's their test figures, not Subaru's. 1/4 mile in 13.6 @101mph..

Cannot see myself with this engine ever out running a Scooby.....to heavy and not the HP for that....he will wonder however why it looks so easy for that old Citroen.

Now spend some $$$'s on the engine and the V6 can and has been a happy 250/70 HP unit but retaining its torque and drive shafts etc (406 Coupe) .....that would make a big difference combined with the active suspenders.

As you know, weight is the killer here Sticky. I'd still like a good Activa, but I'd prefer a Turbo-4 one, because that's what I like. I like the V6 in an auto V6 Xantia, lovely car, but for me, I'd like a lairy engine in an Activa. I've seen the 4 taken to around 240BHP, which must go a bit. Probably a tad peaky running that boost and a completely custom ECU, but that's the sort of thing I got into with the Saabs, though the ECU mods were rather easier back then!

The T4 I was looking at had a 220bhp engine with many Mods. I did not like the way it drove, thrash or drone is not my style.

I love torque, always will always have. Its why I love the Healey and did not get on with the Lancia Int', it is why I waited for a V6 Activa and why I am happy to accept it being a LHD car..

I do too, but it depends on the vehicle. I do like some good old diesel torque for pottering about or normal driving. The Impreza, of course, having the flat-4 and import-spec motor had 220lb/ft from just over 2500rpm, peaking at 290lb/ft. That's partly why it was very quick. I'd have kept it had the rest of it not been so unpleasant. A wonderful drivetrain, awful, awful interior (but, even at 16 years old, everything, including the AC worked perfectly!)

I do like Activas. Please don't take this as dissing them in any way. They're somewhere between a technical marvel and a weirdos curiosity car for me. I did loads of work to mine, and was gutted when wifey bent it. It really was mint up until then! If I can get hold of another solid one, I'll make it good again.

Isn't that part of the reason most of us are here? No need to apologise to me! :D

No, seriously! I love my Berlingo. I live my 2cvs and practical vehicles.

The head gardener would have to have a VW caddy, as I'd actually want him to get to work without the suspension going on a mystery rattling mission :P

I see the usual conversations are still rattling around here about Activae and their merits and pitfalls. Aren't most (if not all) Citroens of an older vintage such marmite cars to begin with?

I need to check but I may have one of these badges! The catch is I really want to shift it with the rest of the car that comes attached to it...
