206 SW TU3JP 1st run up, No warning lights - really?

Post by mpdevice »

Hi
Just finished a head gasket and head reconditioning job without having a garage - fully dependent on the weather. Thanks for some great weather in the last weeks. Have put the pieces of the puzzle back together and turned that key for the first time. Always a dodgy feeling... will it disintegrate? Smoke, stutter....?
All well - so far it started and ran smoothly. Now need to fix things properly and pour the water in. Squeaks a bit but guess it's the tension roller or the water pump.

As I had no aux drive belt connected (no alternator on), no water in the cooling system I wonder why whilst it was running NO warning lights were on!
I am sure everything is plugged in (and the right way)!

Upon ignition on the BAT light and Handbrake are on. When engine ran only handbrake was on.

Should there not at least have been the BATT light on??? Also I wanted to watch the oil pressure light turn off but it wasn't even lit to start with.
Any hints? ECU reset necessary?

Thank you as always!

Mike

dont know why the warning lamps did not light, but the Squeaking could be over tight cam belt

I'd not recommend running it without any coolant even for a short time, its not an iron block and head arrangement. :D

Is the alt actually plugged in ? (even if its belt is not fitted) if the +D lead (the small one) is not connected you can have some strange effects sometimes.

Carefully also check that you have not left an engine earth lead off, common one is the small cable that runs to the top of the transmission.

Thanks all, alternator was never unplugged nor was earth lead (any) disconnected. Squeaking seems to cone from clutch bearing, pressing clutch stops it.

Anyway, does anybody know about the oil pressure light? There doesn't seem to be any although the manual claims there is one. It sure has a sensor, there is one in the front and one at the back of the block, one probably anti knock, the other oil pressure switch.

Hmmm....

The one at the front of the block near the oil filter is the pressure switch. The rear is probably a knock sensor but I'm not 100% sure.

I'd do as Malcolm has suggested personally just ground the wire from the front one to see if it comes on. Its not a variable sensor like the temp unit its simply a on/off device.
