I was told, many years ago, that Carmina Burana was a collection of drinking songs. Can't see it myself but who knows?
There are a lot of interesting theories surrounding it, not least that it was a poke in the eye for the Nazi leadership, who loved it.

Not a drinking song but -Bond! :)

The one with wavy blond hair, Eos Chater, is sister to the fat 'Opera Singer' in the dreadful car insurance ads from a little while back.
She also taught Benedict Cumberbatch to play violin acceptably for the Sherlock Holmes series - she played, he mimed.

Neil, did you know they played at the MetroCentre for the release of the Peugeot -307 IIRC?
Shame I missed that; Gay-Yee Westerhoff is a visual delight (so are the others)

They, and Scala, seem to have taken their cue from this lady:

Proper violinist when she isn't doing her preferred crossover stuff too.

The orchestra are a bit off but she has it nailed!

Always looks lovely. Shame about the skiing fiasco.

Which brings me to:
Joe McDonald

Not sure if I mentioned my first stereo.
It was a 2½W Philips valve amp that you had to run without the cover and flick the valve for the left hand channel with your fingernail to start it :)

I inherited it and the turntable.speakers from the place I worked. When I started there this was the sole 'sound system', along with three LPs.
This one ^, A Savage Rose one (Travellin') and a transparent blue 'sampler' disc.
I still have the first two, played so many times they are past their best, partly as the tone arm was shot and had to be weighed down to keep the needle in the groove :rofl2:

You would think I would have an aversion to them having heard them umpteen times a day for over a year, before the sound systems were upgraded.
Not so, they remain among my favourites.

Savage Rose (Danish band)

Heard this while driving through torrential rain from Göteborg to Borås in the middle of the night - at least while trying to extricate myself from Göteborg.

Although I had some of their other stuff I didn't catch the announcement and hadn't a clue who it was although I should have recognised Anisette.
Too me ages to find the album.

Then came this:

Most of which is too long for posting.

Only Anisette left now of the originals, still touring and with her kids replacing the older ones.

Nice one Steve, welcome addition to the PE Jukebox, not sure if Andre's constantly smiley face goes with the dramatic music. Likely to go down well with the metrosexuals amongst the Pickled Egg punters who still splash on a bit of Old Spice before venturing out :)

I was thinking with the drinking songs that the Germans may provide something interesting, maybe with an oom-pah band to the fore. Not very familiar with this genre so not sure whats good and what's not so good!

My wife always refers to them as my "Wailin' Wimmin" :)
She knew this guy too:

Tried to cut out the first 2 minutes of intro, although they are a substantial part of it - the glowing exhaust pipes included :)

My brother calls him "Dreary Rhea". Not in agreement!

Pity this is so long - Van Morrison makes all the difference

He does get a bit of stick but considering he has come from a busker to his current status he ain't done bad.
Been to the German drinking thing but due to the drinking the memories are hazy 8-)

Maybe something along the lines of Koa Hiatamadl
Actually Austrian! I just love Zabine!

There is a much better outdoor version of this, somewhere :?

More Hubert/Zabine:

Shame that is truncated :(

Zabine is so beautiful - sometimes

This doesn't last very long but it is about beer, its german, and there's an oom-pah band with the essential ingredient a tuba.

But is it worthy of a PE Jukebox slot? Are there any better ones....maybe not I've heard it a couple of times now slightly irritating but easy enough for the PE Punters to pick up!

"Whiskey in the Jar-o and other Irish Drinking songs followed on on youtube so theres probably a few good ones to fill the "Drinking Songs" section of the juke box.
