Cowboy Junkies
Bea's Song

Another Sage experience.
This must be the quietest band in existence.
The gig I went to was ended with this and this alone was well worth the ticket price.
Met Margo afterwards, lovely woman. My daughter fell in love with her, gave her a letter and would never tell me what was in it.

They are two brothers and their sister*, name of Timmins, from Timmins, Ontario. Town founded by their great grandfather.
Also the home of Shania Twain.
* Bassist is Alan Anton

They do the most incredible covers.

Appropriately enough :)

With John Prine.

from here Graces Guide-British Ferrograph Recorder Co

British Ferrograph Recorder Company, of South Shields, makers of tape recorders and audio equipment

1947 Richard Merrick of Wright and Weaire met Louis Fishoff, who had recognised the importance of tape recording and persuaded Merrick to investigate the possibility of producing a recorder. Another of the company's owners, Ernest Niblett, had been interested in this technology for some time, so the company soon constructed a recorder, the Wearite Tape Deck. Louis Fishoff's insistence was such that Richard Merrick passed his thoughts onto Ernest Niblett, who confessed that he had been interested in this technology for some time, so the decision was made then and there to pursue the matter immediately. The result, the Wearite Tape Deck. A factory was established at South Shields; a team of six technical engineers was engaged and, by the middle of 1948, the first Ferrograph recorder was produced

1949 A separate private company for marketing tape recorders was established, the British Ferrograph Recorder Co Ltd, owned by the same shareholders as Wright and Weaire[1].

1950 Patent - Improvements in and relating to recording apparatus.

1955 Wright and Weaire was converted into a public company and acquired the share capital of Ferrograph[2].

1957 Patent - Improvements relating to demagnetising devices.

1958 The name of Wright and Weaire was changed to the Ferrograph Company; manufacturing activities transferred to a new subsidiary Wright and Weaire Ltd[3].
So you were almost right about them being a Newcastle firm.

I am sure I have driven past a Ferrograph factory in Newcastle.
Somewhere near the tunnel I think.
Could be mistaken, probably Shields.

I've repaired a lot of them in the past...

They were a first-class tape deck in their day...

Looking for some glaring omissions so far, and some sit up and take notice tracks when they are selected.

This covers both...

Not a dramatic start but what a finish! The Old Grey Whistle Test absolutely rocked! This is the one occasion when slowing the original down totally works.

Even if you don't personally like the genre, it is a literally awesome performance, more surprising still because this was in an audienceless TV studio.

Hope you enjoy it....I'll definitely be selecting it when I pop in for a pint!

Juke box track number 170 and 171 selections from me:-

Henri Mancini's first appearance with Lujon

And in a similar laid back tone The Girl from Ipanema Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto

Well the Pickled Egg is a pub after all so what about some drinking songs for variety.

Anyone got any suggestions for others?
