Every Jukebox everywhere must have Anarchy in the UK or God Save the Queen by the S ex Pistols.

Oh come on, you can't censor that!

Pink Floyd, either 'Shine On' or 'Comfortably Numb' (I like most of their stuff, but I had to choose), Brenda Lee with 'Fly Me to the Moon', Lee Marvin with 'Wandering Star' (from Paint Your Wagon, loved the tunnel scene at the end!) and David Bowie with 'The Laughing Gnome' (he might not like it, it isn't a great song, but it makes people smile, so that's alright by me).

The Pickled Egg Jukebox has been updated for all the selections above including the genuine B-sides. Surprising one of these is on the B-side of Wandrin' star by Lee Marvin, we have Clint Eastwood exercising his vocal chords!

Everything apart from Brenda Lee singing "Fly me to the Moon" can't find it released as a 7". Couldn't select "Shine-On" by Pink Floyd either due to similar reasons.

The Pickled Egg Juke Box

I'll slip another one in myself now. Again a NPSU juke box classic, and one to stand back and admire the guitar work (Elliot Randall). I'm a big Steely Dan fan but when they do this song live I like to hear it note for note from this version. I am not a fan of slowing it down, jazzing it up or anything else, and the masters have butchered it on many occasions! (in my opinion)

Its always nice to get a bit of background to the selections, So here's a bit about yet another iconic NPSU juke box classic. This was very much before anyone knew who Dire Straits were.

Its "Sultans of Swing" of course

from wiki
The music for "Sultans of Swing" was composed by Mark Knopfler on a National Steel guitar in an open tuning, though Knopfler did not think very highly of it at first. As he remembered, "I thought it was dull, but as soon as I bought my first Strat in 1977, the whole thing changed, though the lyrics remained the same. It just came alive as soon as I played it on that ’61 Strat which remained my main guitar for many years and was basically the only thing I played on the first album and the new chord changes just presented themselves and fell into place."

Inspiration for the song came from witnessing a jazz band playing in the corner of a practically deserted pub in Deptford, South London. At the end of their performance, the lead singer announced that they were the "Sultans of Swing", and Knopfler found the contrast between the group's dowdy appearance and surroundings and their grandiose name amusing

The juke box works quite well if you select shuffle and just play it in the background. I've just had Clint Eastwood followed by Bob Marley!

Its filling up quite nicely but if you have some old singles lying around bring them round, and they'll get shoved in. Any condition, any era, any genre accepted. Nothing like a bit of scratching and jumping to create the authentic sound we're looking for. Obviously the PE is looking to control costs so no money can exchange hands, just the sheer pleasure of inflicting your own musical taste for a few minutes on the assembled throng of PE customers.

I'm sure the Pickled Egg management won't mind me slipping in a bit of Janis Ian

I doubt if this will make it into the Jukebox, but I thought I would post it in anyway. I met Tony around 2002, and he let me have a copy of his album "Allergic To Rust", and one of the songs always tugs, 'Little Lead Soldier';
