Hi, the temp gauge on my 1.6 HDi 3008 moves up to 90 degrees once te car has warmed up for about 5 mins but then it keeps moving between 70 and 90. Is this normal or is it a fault with the temp sensor/sender?
Cheers.

Re: 1.6 HDi temp gauge moving?
It is either getting hot due to an engine fault (leak in HG) or if your lucky, the fans have a problem, blocked rad/waterway ect, temp sensor etc.....what you see is likely to be the operation of the thermostat.
Are you loosing coolant ? do the fans cut in ?

It's not that, it never goes above 90, which is half way up the scale so if anything it isn't heating up properly, it must be the temp sensor which is faulty.
Did your C5 1.6 HDi ever move about the temp gauge?

90C sounds about the normal temperature, it could be that the thermostat is a bit sluggish or it could be a sensor fault.

Re: 1.6 HDi temp gauge moving?
My 307 runs at about 80 (just above first of 3 divisions between 70 and 90). It rarely moves from this, and I've not seen it anywhere near 90. I haven't checked on Diagbox to see what the ECU thinks the temperature is. can't tell on the C4, as that doesn't have a consumer temperature gauge
I'd suspect a gauge fault (although if it's doing this in traffic then it may be normal as the fan cuts in / out if you haven't got the AC on) - remember that these days the temp gauge is driven by the ECU so it tells you what the ECU wants you to see - it might bear no real relation to the actual temperature! You need to get it on Diagbox to see what temp the ECU is seeing. The stat on these is only available as a complete housing that bolts onto the end of the head under the fuel filter - I bet changing it is a right mare! Oh, and it's not cheap either....

My C5/406 run at 90C if the weather is warm enough, maybe the 1.6 is rated differently.

Re: 1.6 HDi temp gauge moving?
Thanks for the replies, Richard is correct. I also asked the question on the peugeot forum and other 3008 owners have the same thing and one user read the ECU and the movement of 90 to the next mark down is only a couple of degrees and apparently it's normal. I'll keep an eye on it and if it proves to be an issue I'll take it back to the dealer as it was an approved used so has 12 months MOT.
