Its certainly from the same stable, but that particular manifestation is Bagatelle. The bagatelle I am most familiar with is this:-

Image

Quite a tradition in our family, 20 ballbearings, and a requirement to write your name date and score on the back of the board if you scored more than 1000. Strangely addictive and a difficult to achieve target, which made the achieving of it when it happened a very satisfying and rewarding moment :!: Still got that board 50 odd years on and still appeals to the new generation just as much as it did when I was young.

The Pickled Egg did welcome in a group of shove ha'penny players the other day. The regulars had never seen scarves worn in such an avant garde fashion before.

Hey, I've got the same bagatelle from when I was a kid, so mine's 60 years old. My daughter also loved playing it. Mine has a few more of the nails missing, so you never knew where the ball would finally come to rest. We had to agree the rules about how to score if the ball escaped through a missing nail gap :)

Many years ago - when Fanny was a girl's name - I had to make one of them bagatelle boards just like that in woodwork class at school. Never did complete it, but I did get my 'O' level in woodwork :)
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Just a reminder about "Pub Club" at the Pickled Egg-explained nicely in the official flyer

"What I made in woodwork or Metalwork" could be a nice subject for talking s***e about.

I'm sure the types of thing made now have changed since my day , but like Bobins I also made a bagatelle board, but it was hopeless in comparison to my green antique. My woodwork effort was a sheet of the finest non sound-deadened plywood a few nails, and a rather pathetic launcher arrangement. The whole thing was designed to be played with tinkling glass marbles rather than the thunderous ball bearings of the real thing.

They probably don't make ashtrays in metalwork classes any more, but I have to say that my beaten copper disk, with a soldered brass ring base has stood the test of time and is as good today as when I made it. Ditto my turned brass cannon on its gun carriage. Sadly I no longer have my cricket spinner, so should I wish to play pencil cricket I would have to invest in two hexagonal pencils.

Top make for 70's sophistication was an after eight serving tray in beaten aluminium with wooden handles which was designed to fit an after eight box perfectly.

The only thing I remember about woodwork at school was our psychopathic teacher who kept order by throwing chisels around

I hated it, hate wood with a passion and still won't go near the bloody hideous stuff... I'm badly allergic to it and I can only tolerate the hateful stuff in its finished state and sealed...

Metal is my stuff.. I loved metalwork but have little of any consequence to show for it...

Tragically I was forced to do woodwork more than metalwork at school  School thought it a good way to get over my revulsion to it...
