Re: Death of another Activa
Last time I did a good underbonnet clean I took the engine and gearbox out first....
I'm always wary of steam cleaning... Seen it cause all sorts of electrical problems...
I'd be tempted to use white spirit and an airline.. Brush on, blow off and then finish off with a clean cloth...

Re: Death of another Activa
Use lots of Swarfega.....works a treat using a soft thick brush and lots of rags.
You will be amazed how well it wipes off the crud, 2 or 3 pots will clean an engine bay and it does not run oily crap into nasty places.
I would NEVER but steam or a jet wash in any modern engine bay (or anything with Lucus bullet connectors
)

Re: Death of another Activa
Activa no.3 on its way Wednesday. Bought the silver Activa that was for sale in Sheffield then made its way to Bailden and locked the guy in at the co-op. Have only really bought it for the rear Activa ram. The idea is to first swop the Activa ram off mine then get mine re-furbished at m&m in holmebridge, holmfirth,as they said they would have ago at following Jims detailed instructions. All being well with that I am thinking of putting that one then back on the silver Activa and selling it on if anyone is interested. If I have no interest then I will probably break the car for spares. I will not be asking a fortune for it as I believe everyone one on here is aware it has a few problems with it. So any interested parties let me know.

Re: Death of another Activa
Had I got it I would have ran it for a while then it would have been curtains for it.

Re: Death of another Activa
Not sure what to do now I have 2 s2's on the drive way
. I know that i will be swopping a lot of stuff over from the new silver arrival to my blue Activa. Once I have done all this I was looking at selling the car on, as spares or repair or break it. Now my 9 year old son wants me to save it and repair it all for when he is old enough to drive. This is an option I am considering but the wife is not so impressed with the idea
. It is plausible as it would probably take me 8 years to put it all right after I butcher it to save my blue Activa. The silver Activa does look nice on the surface I know there is rust in places but, like I say 8 years to sort it and by that time they may well be worth collectors money
. Never thought after I lost my original Activa that I would have 2 sat on my drive way and that i would be considering putting them both back on the road. Am I crazy or do I have some sort of illness. No I just love these crazy cars and have done since my very first xantia td lx
. Sorted one fault on the silver Activa already it said in the add that it had an airbag light on, so inserted key into air bag light switch and turned the air bag back on. Haven't been locked in it yet either

Re: Death of another Activa
I think you're acting as a totally normal and rational Activa owner
And good on your son, I can see you're being an excellent influence on him
I'd return the silver one to the road as they are rare now and will only get rarer. I wish I had a crystal ball to see into the future but in a few years time I really do believe they are going to be sought after and considered special.
So do, fix it up and make it good... So what if it takes eight years... On current progress that's how long my V6 conversion will take!
