New Car Program

Post by Hell Razor5543 »

I don't know if anybody caught the BBC Breakfast show, but they had the presenters from The Classic Car Show on (Quentin Wilson and Jodie Kidd). One of the vehicle clips shown was of a DS Cabriolet being driven around Monaco. The program starts on Channel 5, 19:00 this evening (but I don't know if the DS will be in this evening).

Started last week (or the week before?) Can't remember for sure now, but I definitely watched the first one... Included a triumph TR7, Mustang, Merc 300sl etc.
It was a bit wierd overall - for one, Quentin doesn't work well when he's sat on a sofa (he's too animated to be glued to a chair and it shows  ) but at least he and Jodie are genuinely interested in cars and it's another car show on tv to lap up...

I spotted a DS decap in the titles too, was wondering when that would make its appearance!

The Classic Car Show tonight was the one with the DS driving around Nice/Monaco, and also the Range Rover given the Quentin Wilson treatment

....and if you were ever afraid to enter an Aston Martin Showroom in your jeans and trainers, looking anyhing but the "business user or high net worth individual" who Aston Martin really want to sell their cars to, the Classic Car Show are running a competition so the ordinary man in the street who watches the show has a chance to win one.
We’ve teamed up with Aston Martin to give you the chance to win a brand new 4.7 litre, 420 brake horsepower, Meteorite Silver, V8 Vantage.

The car will be hand built at the Aston Martin HQ in Gaydon where it will be presented to the lucky winner.

And as this is no ordinary car, we will include an Aston Martin performance driving course to ensure you are prepared for its full potential.

So for your chance to win….

Call 0906 515 55 55

Text VANTAGE to 8 55 55

Or post name and phone number to:
VANTAGE, PO Box 7557, Derby, DE1 0NP

So its a couple of quid for calls and texts, providing some of the finance for the competition, but for me the good old almost forgotten "postcard" that gives the best value entry, even at a whopping 53p and with a miniscule chance of winning.

I wonder if this is a Classic Car Show exclusive competition because even if every watcher of the show on Channel 5 texted in and paid £2 less expenses they would be struggling to pay AM for the car. Old fashioned "postcard" people like me are just what Channel 5 and AM don't want. I hope the data entry people at the PO Box in Derby don't just hoy my little postcard in a bin but diligently enter the details in the competition database.

If I do happen to win it of course-after enjoying my driving course, unless tax/insurance/maintenance....and petrol were thrown in as part of the prize I would have to put it on e-bay!

Watched the first and second ones on the laptop in bed last night.

Good show, QW and JK were a little animated but they are new at this format.

It has good prospects, I enjoyed it being idiot free.

Apparently Quentin swears by them, and has been driving them for years, as he mentioned in that feature on the Range Rover.

That Lexarse could not deal with the off road course, while the original Range Rover sailed through it.

Lexarse = style over function.

Range Rover = style with function, and then some! 8-) 8-)

I watched half of an episode... Jodie, bless her, is - I'm sure - a genuinely lovely lady. But she's no TV presenter... if anything, her agonised, stilted autocue reading just shows how difficult TV presenting actually is!

Also, can car shows not just leave politics out of it? "Chairman Tony"?! FFS I know Quentin's political perspective is probably not far from Clarkson's, but I'd rather not be reminded of it quite so often.

That Decapotable, though... *swoon*

Jody impressed me when she was on TG quite a while back but she wasn't presenting then just being interviewed and was quite confident and relaxed.
Haven't seen these programmes.

She's good when she's off doing a feature, but very rigid with the way she reads autocue in the studio.

They always choose predictable hosts. I'd suggest a radical change - how about Robert Lawrence MC, paired with Julian Clary?
