After a couple of decent episodes too... :-(

"This Sunday's episode was set to feature the trio - Clarkson with Richard Hammond and James May - getting to grips with classic cars such as a Fiat 124 Spider, an MGB GT and a Peugeot 304 Cabriolet. They were set to take to the road and end up at a classic track day, while Gary Lineker was the "star in a reasonably priced car".

Probably the usual part-nonsense, but a shame all the same.

I actually wrote to the BBC to complain about that episode with the Toyota and the Subaru. This was to defend JC, as the episode that was aired did not say the N word (or any mumbling), but the word 'teacher' (IIRC). I also pointed out that JC was not to blame, but whoever it was who leaked this to the papers, as they could be said to be smearing JC and the BBC. While I acknowledge that JC is over-opinionated, and a prat, I also look on his views at the same way I look at alcoholic drinks; they only affect you if you accept them.

I have the same view on JC, with the caveat that some of his other programmes, such as the Brunel thing, were very good.

Yeah I agree, the last couple of episodes have been brilliant.
Bound to be some over reaction in what's happened here, thanks to the press having continually stirred things up for no good reason/value

I actually got into a bust up about the Peugeot segment on a Honda forum I'm on, before having watched it (missed it 'cause I was busy working on a car!).
When I did watch it, I still enjoyed it and I'm not sure I have too dissimilar a view really - modern Peugeots are a poor imitation of what has gone before in lots of ways and I do really hate the way they've watered down Citroen. The only thing I'd say is that I'm not sure that modern Peugeot's are that much cheaper/bland than most modern cars tbh.

You could though actually say that PSA's recent announcement about Citroen is to become a 'budget' brand and overall, costs and quality will be cut at PSA by sourcing more and more from China, sounds exactly like the meeting that TG 're-enacted'!

I agree with the Brunel item he did, as well as the one about the Victoria Cross. His father in law was a VC holder (JC never met him, as he had died before JC met his future wife), and his daughter (JCs' future wife) only found this out at the funeral.

Surely sourcing more bits from the far East will make the cars more reliable?...
