I tried last week because I've lived in the Northern Territory, the scene of their whatever it was, but even that was not enough to allow me to watch it.

TG has had its day, sadly...

It needs retirement.

Last evening I watched an excellent documentary on the BBC I-Player...

If it is car-related light entertainment you are looking for Davie, you could do worse than look back to the 1992 Royal Variety performance.

Depending how you look at it its either brilliant or embarrasing in its awfulness. Remember this was in the days before "Britain's got talent". If you stick with it to the end Cliff Richard emerges in a totally terrible outfit and manages a few bars of "Livin' Doll" :!:

Probably a shame that Raymond Baxter had to do the awful script, I used to like his dulcet tones over the Farnborough Air Show and Tomorrow's World! You have to get through a bit of harmonica from Larry Adler before the real action begins :)

Enjoy it if you can, Top Gear may not seem so bad after this

There's some nice motors amongst that lot though, unlike top gear!

Tonights Top Gear apparently has a nostalgic view of Peugeot. I wonder what JC will say?

Nothing sensible I'm sure. They will probably find some way to destroy some perfectly good car or cars in the name of "entertainment" as well.

May on his own I have a lot of time for, have found quite a lot of the standalone documentaries he's done really quite interesting and well done.

Think my favourite automotive presenters these days are probably Chris Harris and Jay Leno. Reason? Simple fact that they both love cars and can look at one as what it was meant to be. Neither of them would feel it necessary to put a Rolls through a slalom or to try to drive a Mustang through a swamp. Some of Chris' stuff is really interesting to watch, not least the walkthrough of Bloodhound from a couple of weeks back (can be found on his Youtube channel).

The new program with quenton Wilson and jodie kidd is ok. I liked the classic of the future 205 gti. He said a tidy one for 4 to 5 grand for a 1.9. Our 1.6 tidy but far from perfect runner must have been a real bargain at just over 1 grand then. It's now had a full service, I think it needs a gearbox mount and not much else for its MOT. It's underside is going to get wax oiled but will wait until mot man sees it the way it is. There is some surface rust but not much else. The joints on the rear sills/quarter needs painting also but being left until spring also.

Zel, I fully agree about James May...

I think he's far too good to be in any way associated with TG now...

I had high hopes for the feature they did on Peugeot when they started with the icons like the 505 GTi, 405 MI16, 205GTi, the 306 Rallye and GTi's even made an appearance and then they totally wrecked it!
