Help: Indicator (turn light) intermittant failure

Unread post by MortyDK »

Dear all,

Car: Xantia, made in 2000, with two litre petrol engine.

Problem: Sometimes when signalling a right turn, the signalling light seems to not work, and the relay clicking sound is much faster than usual. :?

Symptoms:
  • When signalling a left turn, everything is fine.
  • When signalling a right turn, then most of the time it works. But sometimes the right green arrow in the dashboard does not light up, and the 'clicking' sound made by the relay is much faster than usual, perhaps more than twice as fast. (The problem seems to be less likely to appear when the car is well warmed up, but this last observation might be just my imagination.)
What I have done: I found some Internet postings saying this might be a signalling light bulp that has died, and shorted the circuit. So I went through the signalling lights, and all the bulps are still working ... all 3 lights on both sides work.

Does this seem familiar to you good people on this forum?

Thank you very much! :)

There is a known issue, in that the grease in the stalk gets old, and the contacts get tarnished. I have had this happen, and I cleaned mine up which fixed the problem. Here is how I did it;
