Re: synergie diesel hard work to start

when it does start up, is the Rev counter behaving normally or Is it erratic or dead? It could be the crankshaft position sensor, or even just the wire to it disturbed. The 1.9 TD will start and run with the cps faulty, but rbadly as the injector timing is far from perfect. The cps also sends signal to rev counter so,it's a proxy diagnostic tool.

I had a panic with mine recently when it sounded like a machine gun nest had gone to war under the bonnet, and the Rev counter said zero. I was in a remote place and It was after a very wet run the night before, a spray of wd40 in the general area and a restart sorted it, but when the weather is warmer I will have a proper look and maybe replace the sensor.

I changed out my glow plugs on my 1.9D Synergie and still find that it needs 3 or 4 warms on a very cold day (less than 5 degrees). Definitely helped though, it spluttered constantly before

Have you checked to see if you're getting power to the glow plugs yet? if it does turn out to be the relay I have a brand new unused one here bought in error by our ZX's previous owner, got the receipt still, FEBI part number 38725 £30 posted if that's any help to you? (I have it on ebay at 40)

FWIW have you got the spec of the glow plugs you fitted, I believe the ones from earlier non-post heated systems will physically fit in the head but if they're not afterglow capable then they could have burned out in short order due to the way the heater relay works on these motors (this was the problem with our ZX in the end, 6month old plugs all gone pop through overheating)

i would stick with bosch, but as i said to you before mind you DO NOT let the positive pole of each plug rotated on tightening the 8mm nut

yeh could just have been cheap plugs not lasting, the failed ones in our ZX were NGK, was going to get Bosch as well but thought we'd give Denso a try as I've been pleased with their electricals before & they were same price as the NGK's... time will tell if they're any better than the pee poor offerings of the Nippon Gaishi Kaisha's factory :)
