another rant about companies

Post by daviemck2006 »

Heres another rant. Insurance for the 205 for myself and Shaun. It just went on to the existing Insurance for the escort which was in my name with Shaun as a named driver. It runs out at midnight tomorrow night. We had done our homework before we bought it to make sure the insurance is not too expensive. He has a insurance conviction and 6 points for driving his mates car uninsured nearly 3 years ago, when on a provisional licence, and he passed his driving test a year ago today. The insurance in force is out tomorrow. The existing company want a silly amount to cover it, well over 3 grand, but we had quotes "guaranteed" for a month before we bought, the best one from who Paid me out quickly on the c5 at just over 1000. However now the car is bought and home and I am trying to get insurance all of a sudden these "guaranteed" quotes are not available and the cheapest I can get is now over 3 grand again! I have been on the phone about 4 hours and cant get it insured with him on it for a reasonable price. To say I am fuming again is an understatement. I thought a "quote" is exactly what you will pay, not a ruse to get you on the phone and get pressurised to pay 3 times more.

Were these online quotes, if so can't you do it all online without getting caught up in all manner of verbal get outs that you'd have on a phone quote?

Insurance is a minefield, my Mercedes cost £120k new seven years ago, has 517 bhp with a limited top speed of 186 mph yet is cheaper to insure than my C5, work that one out!

Wasn't it you who had a premium rise when you took retirement too Richard? cant believe the Merc is less than the C5, that's just daft, could be that model is less of a risk for accidents and theft than the C5 I've always dodged high premiums by picking rare vehicles or ones preferred by the..............more mature driver, even if they are higher performance than the equivilant man stream vehicle.
I paid £450 less for a DTR BX than my mate paid for his 950cc fiesta and we passed our test the same month, are the same age andat the time were doing the same job for the same company at the time

XM Prestige PRV6 92
Talbot Express Autotrail Chinook 89
Mitsubishi L200 Trojan 14
Xantia Activa 95, sold (missed)

Service Citroen is awesome, it shows me pictures of all the parts i used to be able to buy............

Yes it was me, despite having decades of NCB and removing commuting overnight my driving skills were expected to plummet overnight.

Whatever way I look at comparing the two cars it's difficult to work out as any similar repair will cost far more on the Merc, a total loss will be five times as much, the Merc is far more desirable to a thief if only due to the cost in parts then factor in the performance difference and it's rather difficult to find a trace of logic.

These were online quotes, they took my card number as a deposit then it said the company will phone you back. They then phoned back saying they had to refer it to a specialist insurer due to my sons points, which I had declared, and the insurance was to be so muck and we would just take the difference in the deposit out of the already given card. It took some arguing to stop that and get the money I had already paid back. It took threatening with trading standards to get the refund.

I really cant understand how a 517bhp merc which cost £120k new costs less than a 170bhp c5 derv probably what, £25k new? That just does not compute!

I have tried Adrian flux and they are quite expensive, it would be as well on mainstream insurance. I dont really know any other classic car insurance companies. I'm getting totally pissed off filling in different forms on the internet now, but it has to be insured on the 30th. I'm already limiting the mileage on the quotes I am getting.

Really seems to be one of those cases where yoj just have to grin and bear it. No matter how much it stings.

My Estelle, with its 54bhp on a 5k mile classic policy is costing more than my housemates brand new VW CC with everything thrown in...my friend (same age etc, like me maxed out NCB) is paying £90 a year fully comp for his Rolls Silver Spur...with commuting! I'm on 1200 a year roughly for Xantia, Estelle and 107.

My premium dropped nearly half when I changed my occupation from "unemployed" to "house husband"

Still trying to work that out!

I'm just about to go into battle (again) to try and get the insurance for the wife's 206xsi renewed. Renewal quote from Allianz £350, online quote from Allianz £274, I tried to sort this out a week or two back and got so fed up with the pathetic excuses they were using to try and wriggle out of it I told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. I'd put her occupation as retail shop assistant which has to go in the box 'commuting to single place of work' when I said that occasionally she might have to visit a different store for training etc. they were insisting that business use was the only option.
GA offered an almost identical quote BUT part of the 'service' they offer is that after 36 days you are forbidden to contact them by telephone except for claims! WTF.
Wish me luck.

The insurance on the gti runs out in 6 hours and it's not re insured yet. We want it in Shaun's name as he paid more than me and he will play with it more than me but I think it will have to go in my name as I have a reasonable quote that is a proper quote in my name with him as a named driver. Waiting for him to come home to see what to do. It may go sorn for a month or two until all the salt is past.

I have at last got a company to honour their online quote and the gti is re insured. I have just been out for another blast. It's fun!
