Quick question on xantia locks

Unread post by chinkostu »

My Xantia is missing the lock button from the drivers door. Now, i noticed earlier that early 306 models had a similar style of button. Are they interchangeable? As 306s are ten a penny in scrappers at the moment!

Got a picture? If my scrap 306 has one you're welcome to try it.
I've just realised which bit you mean, I'll check now.

They are different but do look interchangeable.
Pm me your address if you want it posted to try.

They may be interchangeable, but not from front to rear doors (the rear door button is narrower). However, if there aren't any at the scrappy you can get the button from Citroen for around £5

Part number for the front lock button is 96029296ZL, currently priced at £4.88 + VAT from Citroen.

Googling that number doesn't result in any hits for Peugeot, so if it is the same as a 306, it must have a different number in the Peugeot world.

Pug locking buttons come in various colours on Servicebox, all NFP too. They seem similarly styled so if they fit would be a useful stopgap when xantia ones are NFP

The problem with using a second hand lock button is that the teeth wear down on them and the latch also breaks very easily so they can only be removed and re-fitted a few times before they start getting unreliable. Getting the old one off the car without breaking it can be tricky too.

After having re-fitted and fitted a number of second hand buttons and a couple of new ones on various Xantia's I would now only bother trying to fit a second hand one if I already had it lying around or I was getting it for nothing as the aggravation of not being able to get it to stay on properly or having it break while you try is not worth it IMO.

Quick update, robbed one from a 405 in the nearby scrappers eager to see the differences. The big issue i found is the 405 button at the back seems higher, so it only goes as far into the door so it sits flush with the trim. Which means the rod won't actually reach up inside!

The 306 one didn't arrive elma but when it does i'll see if its any different!
