Synergie diesel throttle damper

Unread post by Harlequin »

heya - a question regarding:

Image

the red bit

is it supposed to be able to move freely? mine seems to be very much `sticking`.

also what is its purpose?

the red color does not move but the plunger when at the correct angle is there to slow the throttle down on coming off,

it looks like the one in your picy has had its bracket bent outwards to take it out of service

you dont need the damper in place as it does not affect the running, its just spozed to be a green ( looking after the O zone layer ) device

when the damper fails it holds thew throttle up tooo high/long

We got our Synergie new all those years ago (1998). Don't buy new cars these days but then the deal made it almost as cheap as a recent second hand one. At first service I said that the revs took aged to drop to idle, the very good and experienced mechanic said its the damper, we often take them off .... so he did. That was 15 1/2 years and 140k mile ago. Still got it in the garage, never wanted to re fit it. The only downside is if you are chugging around in first or second at low speed and take your foot off the throttle indelicately the 'van can lurch a bit, but really all the damper does is improve the low speed driveability for the moderately incompetent operator.

it was meant to be there to bring the revs back to idle gently, something to do with emissions control

I always thought the mini shock-absorber (across the front of the pump) was the "damper". That part at the rear, that's been bent out of shape is the anti-stall device isn't it? Just sounds like it needs resetting as per the BOL.

You may be correct - I'll have to check my car now as I thought mine originally had both.

As for correct names, I/we tend to call the throttle position sensor (if fitted) a "pot" so maybe y'all should best ignore me anyway :?

Similar to the 'strut' type they fitted on the front of some XUDT's, 406 and probably Xantia I guess. They were about 70 odd ( ! ) new, most people just binned them when they wore out and rattled. The back one (my 106D had one) as said is just a damper, I guess partly so you do not have to have the antistall set too high maybe.

Sorry for leaving it so long but I popped the bonnet today and yes, mine had both (the front shock-absorber lies in a box in a cupboard somewhere)

seems mine is missing - the front strut mini shock absorber , the mounts are there for it , its just missing (and yes the one at the back was bent out of the way)
