A Car Theft With A Difference...

Post by CitroJim »

This happened in Luton...

Police and mental health officials are desperately hunting for the perpetrators.... The latter because they targeted a Vauxhall...

Apparently its very common. Owning a Corsa that is, remember you're better than that so just say no.

This happens not too infrequently with front bumpers, particularly with things like hot hatches where parts are more expensive. I saw one guy on ebay who only sold front bumpers for hot hatches. A clean, already painted bumper could fetch £150-£200, and guess what, it's only 3 or 4 easily accessible bolts to remove them on a lot of cars.

The clue is in the location. Lots of people with Vauxhalls, they're almost compulsory there, and a lot of people who know how to assemble or disassemble them.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention CitroJim.

Here are some more I have been reading though.

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q= ... ft&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also the way the Google search works it brings up associated searches on the right of the page.

So on the left we have stolen bumper stories, while on the right there are bumpers for sale.

It looks like the situation that happened with theft of alloy wheels is repeating itself.

Therefore there will be an increase in the sales of locking security fastenings for preventing this problem.

wasnt it in the 90's that stripping cars was at its peak?? i seem to remember a watchdog type program explaining that within an hour of being stolen an xr3i would have been Completely stripped of all parts and shell cut up, Often before the owners even knew it was gone! if they didnt strip it then it was generally Slashed to bits inside,
an old car i owned had been stripped of its interior when it was a year old,

people always say if your goign to do it, Do it in Broad daylight, 90% of people wont bat an eyelid!

It even happens up here a car a few streets away was stripped last year in the night. Can't remember what it was but definitely modern, small hatchback of some sort.

That's actually possible. There's a lot of people wanting to upgrade the original and first face lift, and would buy the newest bumper with no questions asked, and as far as i know you can remove a c1 front bumper in 20 minutes!
