and is now not closing smoothly, ie top edge hanging about 1/2 inch low, is there an easy hinge adjustment?

Had that happen in my x7 the other day, geeze the mounts flexed !, surprised me as the X7 has a high NCap and I would of thought that part of the structure would be massively strong.
If it has "bent" or twisted the pillar/mounts, the only way/best way, is to take off the door and attach a bar and bent it back...a very easy job but one that takes the good "feel and eye" that comes with experience, not to much at a good indy body-shop.

you could try jacking the rear end of the door up whilst open ( only just open enough to get the wood/jack under the end ) with a block of wood on a trolley jack,
once back in place you might need to fit new hinge pins as it is likely as they wil be fractured

Re: the wind caug in ht my drivers door, hinges deformed?
right, I think that the top hinge has been "persuaded" in a rearward direction, in the absence of feeler gauges, I can get a 1/16 allen key comfortably, when the door is fully open, between the curve of the door and the adjacent part of the front wing....
on the passenger door the key wont go any where near in between.....
does the wiring connection between door and pillar unscrew? do the hinge pins also unscrew?

Re: the wind caught my drivers door, hinges deformed?
Right, the quick repair was............a 1 mm thick washer inserted between the lower hinge, and the door........ closing the door, sounds now, like a Golf! ...........almost!!
the hinge itself is dowelled to the door, so no lateral movement........
