C5 2.0 HDi injectors

Unread post by Xantianut »

Ay up!

Just read a few horror stories aboutes injectors seizing solid in the head. Is this a common problem?

Do I HAVE to remove them when getting the head off?

Or can I pop them out using the compression of the engine like on an old-school diesel?

Please advise. Diesel nooby here!

DO NOT PANIC!!!

AT ALL.. the 8v hdi 110 engine, with the Single 13mm nut and large clamp has so far appeared to bee the most reliable in this department!

If the injector seal give, you can hear the compression passing the injector with a hissing! One of mine gave way at about 200k, I ran the engine and it heated the "Coal" the holds the injector in place and it went soft, I was able while it was hot remove the injector... So first things first, learn to listen out for untoward noises!!

Keep an Eye around the injector bases any signs at forst instants of a Black Substance that goes hard when cold GET TO WORK!

HDi 90 and 110 bhp 8v engines do NOT need injectors out. They are the only engine in the HDi family to not be a Cross Flow, there fore both manifolds mountedon the rear of the head. However, head removal would nessitate head with both manfolds still attached needing to come out as one, due to a couple of awkward bolts on the inlet holding it to the head.

Ay up!

Just discovered that someone has been "at" this engine before and they may have left a potentially explosive problem.

I have got a little shmuck round the base of the injectors but, seeing as I intend to replace the valve seals - may as well while I'm in there - the injectors will get the new seal kit I've ordered.

The scary thing is a bolt in the end of the common rail that is nearly falling out that appears to secure the engine lifting bracket in place. My question is does this bolt also plug the end of the rail or is it solid with the bolt going into a "blind" hole. It's just I don't fancy diesel at 44,000 psi spraying all over the engine room!

Blind Hole!

Why do you want to change the valve seals for??? I never fitted any in 286k, and she still never used any oil on me!!

Just curious thats all...

Seal kits, a copper washer, plastic sleeve, nice and simple on these 8v engines!

Ay up!

I got the valve seals with the head kit. I'll be fitting them because I don't want want to go into it again for the forseaable! Plus, I dunno, it makes the car more "mine." Plus I've had this valve spring compressor, grinding paste and hi-tech valve grinding tool for a couple of years. Just hope that the gasket's blown because of the leaky water pump (replacement in the boot along with the cambelt) and that there's not some other damage caused by heinous bodgery.

I have a set of injector seals, ordered once it became clear that the injectors would come out.

Weather permitting, I'll be getting busy from tomorrow. Hopefully.

Ay up!

Went out today with the intention of getting started but it's still too bloody cold. So no go. Car's back on it's wheels, whingeing as only a Citroen can!

Just in cast I can't get it done myself, anyone know a good, reasonably priced Citroen specialist near Wolverhampton?
