I know where this does work. Bookers C&C used to use a very old EPoS till (running DOS 6.22), with a specialised dual output video card. It was a common occurrence that when we replaced one of these base units that it would, during the starting sequence, freeze with a block of graphics in the top left corner of the screen. When this first happened to me I phoned Tech Support, asking for help. I was told to keep restarting the till, and eventually (about half an hour) it would clear. I was sceptical, and checked the date (and no, it was not 1st April), but I did what I was told, and it worked. Next time I replaced a till, and the graphics occurred, I power cycled the till every time I got the graphics, and it cleared after a while. We never got to the bottom of this, but once a till had cleared the block it never re-occurred.

Thats almost exactly what I said about the M25 a few days ago. I think modern cars aren't tactile enough and people switch off more readily.

Too many "other things" to do
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/roa ... -time.html

and not having to drive or listen to the car.....

I blame all those super soft ultra comfy Citroen c5 and c6 cars out there....drivers all comfy and warm....No mate, a lot of drivers (MOST) just cannot and never will be able to handle a modern car at speed when they get into trouble, they have zero experience or practice of loosing a car at 40-50mph on the the M25 Wet and at Night let alone 60-70 on a close walled A road bend on Mud.

Spend a day at a race track and watch all those drivers in Uber Cars and all those AUDI and BMW driving Area Managers on the skid pan the first few times......then you will know why there are so many nice cars in ditches. Add to that a few years on a Motorbike in Central/South London, I am sure you understand my negative opinion on people who 50% of the time cannot understand or work out themselfs which lane to choose at a fracking roundabout . :).rant !

When I worked for a large Pharmaceutical company years ago, they sent us on the skidpan and on defensive driving courses before they let us loose in company cars. A damn good idea.

I also did 18 months as a motorcycle courier in West London and the city, on a totally unsuitable CBR600. I think everyone should have to do it  It focuses the mind and teaches one an enormous sense of self preservation.

Every time it rained or was dark! Oddly, when it finally did happen, I was waiting at a right turn near Bury, Greater Manchester going to visit a mate one night. Fortunately they saw me, just too late and didn't hit me that hard. Dented can, broken indicator and a bruised hip was my only damage. The driver learnt some new words though.

The Old Street roundabout and Aldgate were my most hated places, especially when it was raining. There was always diesel on the roads from the buses. Really nasty. I never fell off in those 18 months in London though, not once. Never have I been so alert.

Hahaha.....I dropped my BWM on the Aldgate due to oil, was clipped by a bus into the railings at Oxford Circus, very public :) ...was OK and the Bus Company insurance paid up as well for all the bent bits......only thanks to the driver behind who stopped and made a statement (he was a non-Londoner so he still had some feelings for others)
I was hit up the bum at lights at the Hendon/NCr roundabout, ended up sitting on a Volvo's bonnet with only a bruised knee. Bike was a write-off....and that was my LAST M'Bike :)
