After removing the o/s wheel and plastic panel, tackle the pulley bolt first. You'll need a socket with extension bar and some means of holding the flywheel ring. Take the weight of the engine on a trolley jack with a length of wood between sump and jack, before removing the top engine mount. Some of the work is easiest reached with the engine jacked high, and other parts with the engine lower. It's probably worth putting on a new 'fan' belt as you finish. When the cambelt is off, consider putting on a new tensioner pulley. At least give it a spin and check for rough running. Likewise with the water pump pulley. Also check for any signs of leakage from the pump.

The crankshaft pulley bolt is 22mm and has threadlock on it, for this reason loosen it with the engine hot, wheels on the ground and in fifth gear, that's the way I get it undone.
Don't be tempted to use the 8mm timing peg as the crankshaft lock, if it bends you will have to take the box off to get it back out.

Citroën's own workshop instruction for removing the crankshaft pulley nut states: " O/S wheel off, remove plastic inner arch, one man in car with foot on brake, insert 4th gear, other man with socket + extension + lever."
