Buses, and old buses in particular liked a bit of two-tone, and even a bit of three-tone

Image

The liveries across the country of the various corporations and private operators, was a nice litttle bit of "vive la difference" as you travelled from one part of the Country to another. Newcastle City would be a sea of yellow at one time, our local buses were mostly red from the Northern General Transport Company, but there were also some nice Yellow and Cream with a touch of maroon offerings from the Venture Bus Company at Consett.

I presume this must be from 1963

Yes I have had another bit of enjoyable wallow, there is so much detailed information and pictures from the bus enthusiast community, and this site is worth a visual peruse. The link goes to an index page, click on your local corporation/operator and do a bit of time travel!

Thanks for the link to the old buses. I used to be a conductor on many of those Blackpool trams and buses. Seems like yesterday!

Pleased it jogged some memories, certainly did for me. I can't remember the trams in Newcastle, but definitely remember the trolley buses. I enjoyed the the occasional snippets of comments to accompany the photos...like this about the "Venture" bus from Consett

"The cream roofs which were introduced universally from about 1959 were a dubious choice given that Blackhill depot was situated almost underneath one of the sections of the Consett Iron Company. The infamous red dust ensured that a Blackhill bus could usually be distinguished from a High Spen bus without much difficulty!"

You cant really be nostalgic about the pollution from the Ironworks but it did stir up memories!

Well, Citroen definitely do/did orange paint, not sure what the shade was called....it would be surprising if it was "orange"

Top candidate would be CITROËN MANDARINE AC437 1977 1980
but later oranges were
CITROËN ORANGE AERIEN NACRE KHU 2003 -
CITROËN ORANGE NASSAU KHM 2000 -

the orange i remember back in the 80's when i were a paint sprayer was
AC 329 GDR Orange Ténéré

but also the G used
AC 435 GKL/EKJ Rouge Géranium
this had at least 5 variants ranging from a very orange red ( not quite as orange as the G above ) to a full red red

This would appear to be a 2CV clothed in Orange Ténéré. Not quite a two tone but the roll back roof looks a bit reddish

That's a lovely brace of SMs Neil 8-)

Yellow I like too, not quite as much as orange but I do like the darker yellows and I'm very fond of that dark yellow seen on Saxos back in the late 90s..

Not sure what it was called now.
