Xantia horns 6v or 12v?

Post by red_dwarfers »

I've got twin horns on the Xantia and they are not working. I've tried them out on the battery direct and also given them a good whack with no result.
They have been a bit weedy the last couple of years so I assume one must have gone and now the second one has.

The GSF website seems to think that my Xantia has 6v horns, surely this isn't the case? Or is it something to do with having twin horns?

Kev,

12v parrelel, so if one goes down the second should still work where as if they were in line if one went down then both would!

But they are DEFO 12v!!

As addo said! The disco and ff guys seem to upgrade to them when theirs fail and they aren't much more than standard horns but by gosh they work well :D

I've heard of those horns before, are there different models?

Time was of the essence in this case as it's going in for MOT on Saturday so I've gone for a GSF special to tide me over before I investigate into a proper one! At the moment, one horn is better than none!

northern_mike had this problem on his last V6 Xantia. Both horns were shot, and the replacement was also faulty (and that took a bit of finding out; we assumed the new horn worked, so were looking everywhere else for the fault!). He got it replaced and then (after an issue with pipework) got it MoTed.

i have got dead car horns to function in the past by firstly shooting a good dose of the likes of quake quake oil down its throat, and twiddle the sealed tone adjusting screw a touch then testing, twiddle test twiddle test twiddle test twiddle test twiddle test twiddle test till you get it working and at a tone you like

Go to ebay, buy a pair of single tone air horns with the compressor for £10 and fit using the OE wiring loom. Simples, and they really make people take note when you press the horn!
