Front fog light surround

Mike, as far as I recall it has a couple of 'ears' on it that clip into the projections on the lamp retaining clip.

With the clip in the lamp removal position the surround will stand proud of the bumper. As you move the clip around to the secured position the projections will withdraw inward and take the surround with them..

Hard to describe in words... Hope that makes some sense...

Mike, there must be something stopping the retaining clip going fully home or the surround ears are not correctly homing onto the projections on the clip... The surround has barbs and the clip has secondary clips to lock the surround on via the barbs...

Not sure about blanking plates. A visit to a scrappie to obtain a bumper from a lowly model may provide the answer...

I've never removed those fog lamp surrounds on either of my S1 Xantia's, however on my first one one of the surrounds "removed itself" while driving, never to be seen again...

The odd thing is the Xantia that lost the fog light surround was a rust free NZ one... I can only assume something hit it and caused it to pop out because it was there one day gone the next!
