Me too :-D

I had to buy two lots as my V6 needs 16mm washers whereas my Activa needs the 14mm ones..

Might be worth checking yours is 14mm Terry but I believe all the XU and HDi are 14mm

I stand to be corrected though!

I buy my oil and oil filters in bulk too...

Just to be awkward, two of my 2.1 XUDs have had different sized washers, so I also bought ten of both. 8-)

That's just typical of an XM Peter :rofl2:

Seriously though, I believe it depends if they have an alloy or pressed steel sump or not. 14mm for the alloy sump and 16mm for the pressed steel one.

Pressed steel sumps are normally fitted to non-aircon cars...

I was going to say the same thing Jim. I remember on Pug306.net that the alloy sumped cars had AC, as the mounts for the AC pump are on the sump itself. Non AC cars had a steel sump. So if one of your 2.1 XM's had AC and the other didn't, that would certainly be why Peter.

I recently did a service on my HDI, I'd forgotten to get a washer and i was amazed to find it didn't have a washer at all!!! the plug did have a tapered mating face though and seems to be holding up a thousand miles on. Should I be worrying?

I didn't realise there was no washer until I retrieved the plug from the tray, being as it's my daily driver and I was stranded away from home I didn't have much choice. I must Google dowty seals tomorrow.

You can fix a leaky sump plug temporaraly by undoing it a couple of turns and wrapping some PTFE tape round it.

Yep, used them when they have been available and indeed they are good and can be re-used a couple of times too...

As indeed can copper washers. Just re-anneal them, and they're often fine for re-use.

Solid ones yes absolutely but some are rolled from thin sheet and squash quite flat in use. Those are not really good for reuse even when annealed...

To anneal just heat the washer up to cherry red using a blowtorch and then allow to cool.

I think the main reason for washer failure is that people do them up to tight.
