I agree, The compression fitting is probably aimed at 2 CVs with only pedal pressure. It would be great for a fix on a long journey away, and may do temporarily.. probably worth having one in spare kit. But I've chosen to order a connector from Paelides this morning, which takes the citroen flares.

Yes Chris, I ordered a supply of those in 4.5 and 3.5mm as well as a length of 3.5mm cupifer to see me through any other problems Perhaps. I'll also try to get more 4.5mm tube later on for when I do rear central sphere.
Now I must continue to hold my horses, and wait for delivery.

Martin gave me the reason 4.5mm is in short supply at times. He has to invest about 500o quid (I think that's what he said) on a minimum order for those two sizes, and he takes a year or so to recoup that with very little profit and lots of work.
This may happen again to us.
Martin suggested we might like to pitch in and hold some stick ourselves. That would also speed up his order.
In the future we may have to, as a Citroen Club.

So, maybe like 10 to twenty people each invest in about 100 pounds worth each of tube, and carry that.
Worth thinking about.

Thanks Superloopy for popping that pipe in the post for me. Kindness like that, over and above the practical help, keeps me going. I appreciate your effort in getting your hands on it, and then into the post and quickly. Decent you are.

Fixed up the broken brake hydraulics today, using a new flare tool in vice under car to get at cut pipe No 13 - main brake supply.
When all finished bled her and took her for a spin. All seems well (wasn't as easy as pie).

There was enough length of pipe to pull down to make the flare with his tool. I should have made the cut on a longer straight run, that's all - because you need plenty of length to get the union on and then have pipe free to go the full way of what is a relatively long die. Cleaned off the paint first all the way, and degreased it, to ensure good grip.

The flare tool under the jacked up car. You may just see the hanging cut pipe:

The finished section, before hanging up the pipe and joining to K-splitter:

I want to thank you all here.

Upon reflection, I'd prefer to make such a join with solder and a prepared sleeve. I'm gonna look around or have some made up as spares, I'm thinking… but thee's the problem of LHM contaminated pipe.

Oh yes Mike, I am happy - see... :-D
I've got a car .. it'll go through the MOT
Certainly this repair is fine. Very few other places on the car you can use the tool, if any. Very useful for making up new sections, of course.

Xantia II rear brakes, imbalance corrosion and, pipe leak,

Post by John Plum »

I imagine I'll have to make up whole lengths then.
I wonder if anyone's had success with sleeves and solder on the car, and how they dealt with the LHM.
I've successfully done so to the main feed from pump to regulator, but I took the short pipe off and blew it clean in preparation.

I'm willing to give one of those brass compression olive joiners a try - compression rings are used for high pressure lines up to maximum working pressure of 400psi for 1/8". Not great for where vibration occurs - better with a longer supporting threaded sleeve.

I wouldn't bet on them working then! I believe the LHM pump generates pressures in excess of 170bar. This is around 2,500psi.

Oh that much! I'll memorise that for my next exam... I was thinking 150psi.
