Does anyone know the size and type of the clamp at the front of the rear muffler on the V6 ? I know its a V groove clamp that pulls the flanges together but I'm not sure what diameter it is, and where exactly you measure the diameter to if I'm looking through clamps at a motor factors... Do they quote the inside diameter in the middle of the V groove on that type of clamp ?

I may be swapping the muffler shortly and I don't know if any of my assortment of clamps will fit until the old one is off, so I need to have a new one ready to go first, as the old clamp is rusty enough to be unlikely to be reusable...

According to docbackup, it is stock code 1713 52, with a diameter of 66mm, if that helps.

Thanks James,

I never even thought to check service citroen #-o I might phone the local Citroen agent and see if they have one in stock, then I know I have the correct one. I see it's £7.99 which is reasonable if I can walk there and pick it up today...

I have installed all three discs on my PC, to make it easier for me to look up things, even if the Internet access is a bit slow.

Page date and number 23/03/10, 0290 06 1848 40, for series 1 Xantia INJECTION ES9J4, item 5.

Oooh, there might be a bit of buggeration here....

MK1 uses a 66mm clamp, whereas Mk2 uses a 74.5mm.... So, not sure which you will have on the pipe you have bought? Need to measure it I guess.... I'm not sure where the measure is made though, as the pipe dia is 60mm in the former case I think

Mind you, I effected a pretty good repair of this joint on my HDi when it failed using a couple of bits bent metal and some jubilee clips :-D :rofl2:

Ah, drat!

Page date and number 18/03/10, 0291 06 1848 35A, for series 2 Xantia INJECTION ES9J4, item 6. Stock code 1713 69, diameter 74.5. The same type clamp is used at both parts of the intermediate exhaust, as opposed to different clamps on a series 1 Xantia.

Hmm!! I just phoned the local Citroen agent, he told me that 171352 has been superseded by 171366 and they have one in stock so I'm picking it up tomorrow. They also have 171369 in stock which is the clamp on the cat to centre section joint in case that needs to be separated for any reason. The two together is £14 so I think I'm best off just getting them both so I'm well prepared!

However you've now got me worried about whether 171366 will fit my car, or indeed whether my ebay muffler will fit the flange on the centre section pipe!! #-o My RPO number is 7515 by the way.

Are you sure you're not confusing the 74.5mm one with the cat to centre section clamp, part 171369 - as that is listed as 74.5mm... I wasn't aware that S1 and S2 V6 exhausts were any different, maybe Jim would know ?

Does anyone know how to go backwards in service citroen from a part number to a diagram that contains that part number that might show the diameter ?

According to docbackup the S1 Xantia does use two different sizes of clamp (1713 69, 74.5mm, from CAT to intermediate, and 1713 52 (which has been replaced with 1713 66), 66mm, intermediate to back box), while the S2 uses 1713 69 for both positions.

Time to measure the flange on the back box, methinks!

Right. Panic over, I think!

If I do a look up of a generic Xantia V6 it does indeed show 171369 as the clamp for BOTH the Cat joint and the rear muffler joint, at 74.5mm. So at some point they started using the same clamp for both locations.

However when I look up my S1 V6 it says the cat is 171369 (74.5mm) and the muffler is 171352 (66mm) but the Citroen man said 171352 has been superseded by 171366 which is yet another different part number. So chances are that the 171366 he has is correct for my car. Either way I will have both size clamps available.

The problem may be that the rear muffler flange may not match the flange on the end of the centre section! I don't recall whether the ebay listing gave an option for S1 or S2 V6. I kind of wish I'd bought the entire exhaust not just the muffler, apart from having nowhere to store it and it costing twice as much... :?

Edit: here is the listing of the one I bought:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161026806949? ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It says March 1996 to December 2001, so no indication that there might be variations in the flange with year.... :?

That is what I said! Still, if nothing else you know an S2 intermediate pipe should fit, provided you can get one. The only thing is the slight drop in pressure (as the diameter is 8.5mm wider at the point of contact between the pipe and the back box).

I wonder if a few turns of cooking foil on the outside flange of the intermediate pipe would widen it out enough, if required?

Sorry, I think we cross posted...

I'll measure the diameter of the flange on the muffler I bought, but that still doesn't answer what is on the car as the muffler whilst OEM may not be the original one... :?

By the way where did you find what part number superseded the clamp and what the diameter of that was ? I didn't see any mention of 171366 when I was looking.

On the relevant page for the S1, in the part number it shows the first number, and then, below and to the right (in the same box) it reads "RP 1713 66".

Ah, got it. I did see that number, but I thought that was an RPO number. #-o

I thought that at first as well, but when you said it had been superceded, and the part number, I interpreted RP to mean replaced. I would assume Citroen would use RPO where required.

So it calls up the same intermediate pipe and the same rear box, yet a different clamp. Got to love Citroen :rofl2:
