Re: Citrojim's Xantia, C1 and XM Tales
Problem is Will, they go right on the end and that makes repairs really hard. Likewise the back box goes on the weld where the stub pipe joins. I'd say getting on for bldy hard to fix and just as hard to bodge and for £72 all-up for a new one why bother?

I meant the mating faces Jim
The stub that mates with the box is known to be a pain but could be painted up pre fitting to help negate the issue, and then if the joint is sleeved and painted between the mid section and backbox another rust area is done.

Sorry Will, I misunderstood. My bad...
Yes, those joints are a pain but a bit of exhaust goo makes them tolerable...

I'm happy to see I still have a nice dry hydraulic pump on the V6
Looks like that problem is nailed and I'll know for sure when I take the car for a run to Somerset next Saturday...

I am so proud of my daughter....
She had a duff headlamp bulb on her 207 and because I was out most of yesterday she changed it herself
That's my girl!
She said it was a bit fiddly...

Well, you have NOT brought up a "Femininny"! That is a word my Mum made up, in her novel 'The Blacksmith', and is "A woman who glorifies her failings... and, worst of all, not being clever enough to do, or understand, something, because she is only a woman"CitroJim wrote:I am so proud of my daughter....

I don't think she'll be having a 208 next though...
I'm not a great fan of the 207 although for her it's been very reliable in taking her on a daily 60 mile commute...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia, C1 and XM Tales
It is strange how ingrained we are in thinking women are incapable of being able to do anything mechanical or electrical.
Stereotypical thinking although I have to admit being equally proud of my girls doing anything similar, despite them doing stuff like that and more complex and demanding all the time.
IR dinosaur.
The girl who lived next door to me did all her own DIY.
Ripped out the staircase and built a new one.
I heard banging from next door one day and ran round to see what the problem was.
She was fitting wall cupboards in the bedroom - 8 months pregnant!
And my mother in law used to build Merlin engines. Had I not known this I would have assumed baking cakes was the limit of her abilities.
One of my youngest daughter's friends is chief electrician for a local housing company.

You're right Steve,
It's just Robyn had never, ever shown such inclinations in the past. I'm now just wondering how far she can go with this
Her car is due for a service...
Perhaps...
She might do the work under my instruction...

My daughter changed her front discs and pads on her astra under my instruction. I think she realises that I won't be able to do it forever.

No just got her sisters man to do a service at the weekend. I spose he is the one that's a diesel/electric locomotive engineer with Scotrail.

I am not sure what my Mum CANNOT do! Qualified mechanic (served her apprenticeship), successful author, good at DIY, decent Mum (managed to bring up 4 sons without them turning out too badly), successful cat breeder (first breeder in Germany to produce 2 Grand Champion International Seal Point Siamese). No, wait, I know, she doesn't do technology well!
