HDI throttle cable

Unread post by drpau »

Was twiddling with my throttle cable last night to try and improve responsiveness and there doesnt seem to be a way to tighten it up a little, alls I could see was a little circlip, (which I took off and then dropped it into the depths of the engine bay never to be seen again [:(!] ). My last car was drive by wire as well but you could still adjust the cable tension with a little adjuster. Any ideas?
Thanks

The circlip IS (or was...[:D]) the adjuster. Pull back the plastic ribbed tube to take out the slack in the cable, then push the clip on to hold it in place. I expect you can get a new one without cutting too many arms off at the local dealer - otherwise down the scrappy - most Cits have been fitted like this for years.

Cheers for your reply Richard, well I went into Citroen dealers in manchester, it took a bit for them to get what i was going on about, but they were helpful nonetheless. They didnt have the part in but said they could have it delivered for tomorrow, for, can you believe, £2.04! I decided for a 1pence piece of wire it was a bit pricey and made my own. I also cleaned my MAF sensor with some acetone while I was at it, just took it for a spin round the block and its so much more responsive. It feels like a different car now.[:D]

Please forgive my ignorance but what's a MAF sensor?

Silverback, the MAF sensor is the mass air flow sensor, its basically to tell the ecu how much air is being drawn into the engine so it can put in the appropriate amount of air. More modern diesels are increasingly sesitive to these running spot on (just ask a VAG owner) although, with my last car (rover) the maf only controlled the Exhaust gas recirc valve. The fuelling was determined by the Mass air Pressure sensor.

Thankyou.
Do you have any idea wher it might be on a 110 Hdi Xantia?
I am keen to keep my car running sweetly and read your previous post regarding cleaning the MAF sensor.
regards.

If you look at your airbox, above it there is a wire plugged into the plastic tubing, this wiring goes to your MAF sensor. Basically you need to unscrew this piece, unplug from the wiring and use a solvent, like Acetone or Ethanol some people use a can of carb' cleaner, to rinse over the tips of the sensors if they look dirty or oiled up. You must be really careful though, MAFs are not cheap so dont drop it and make sure you allow time for the solvent to evaporate off.
