Can't help thinking that the current crop of "mainstream" electric vehicles, although looking very much like real cars now, are just so disappointing in terms of range, convenience and especially price. We would all give them a go if they were cheap enough, and cost us less to run.
Did a bit of reading about Nikola Tesla prompted by Jim's guess. The current crop of innovative minds maybe aren't working in the field of electric "volkswagens". I am sure Tesla would have perfected his wireless transmission of electric energy by now, and solved the limitations of the rechargeable battery

big cats do like water though, unlike Fix Or Repair Daily's, as they were famous for not wanting to go/start with the slightest bit of dam in the air

It'll be a valve one with a vibrator power supply...
Listen to it with the engine off and the battery would be flat in no time at all.. Many were caught out...
Vibrator power supplies were used to generate the high tension (HT) the valves needed. They were fascinating things and worked on much the same principle of a modern inverter but was electro-mechanical..
The power supply for the wireless would be under the bonnet as they were far too noisy to be in the cabin...
