Thats quite interesting.
Mine look different now I look closely, when the bleed nipple fitted the other side I thought it was ok.
Thanks, I would've got them all painted before I found out.
I'll be checking first now I think.
Better take the ones off the car and see what they are like.
They looked rusty and Bindy on first inspection.
I'll put some pics of the car on another thread next week.
I'll be vanishing for 4 days now and back home Saturday to start work on the Xantia.
I'm needing to put it on the road on the 2nd of next month so It'll be getting a lot done quite fast.

Re: Xantia rear brake callipers
i would have thought if this were the case, they would finish both caliper halves to the same degree, as the half calipers are just switch over from O/S to N/S fitting/usage,Mandrake wrote: I'm assuming that the diameter and finish of that inner hole is very critical to get a good high pressure seal (most of the sealing is actually metal to metal at the tip of the pipe not at the rubber seal) so during manufacture they probably drill out a rough slightly smaller hole first, then use another slightly bigger bit as a precision finisher - and not bother to finish the bleed valve side to save a few seconds during machining...
this way the factory just churns out two different half calipers that are mix and matched dependent on which side of the car they are being used at

Re: Xantia rear brake callipers
It was suggested on one of the threads last year to use greaseproof paper as a gasket. It works well on my Xantia.. the rears still spin freely 9 months on . no sign of corrosion yet.

That's a good idea Chris. Baking parchment may be even better as it's silicone coated...c.morewood wrote:It was suggested on one of the threads last year to use greaseproof paper as a gasket.

Re: Xantia rear brake callipers
I made my gasket out of visqueen plastic, over a year now and still perfect, I have always copiously lubricated the through bolts with a mixture of oil and grease and never had a problem, lashings of loctite seems to have come along with the C5, BXs seemed to always be greased.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.
