Citroen Xsara Key Symbol

Hello to all.

A year ago, our son changed the engine on his Phase 1 Xsara, 1.9 DW8. The car is 1999.

His key symbol was lit and we had a posting running on the forum asking for help.

The car would not start and the key symbol was lit because the coding in the diesel pump on the replacement engine did not respond to the original ignition/key of his car.

We ordered a Lexia at the time, but before it arrived, he got the top from an older diesel pump with no electronics on it and we fitted it, used only one of the wires on the lead for the stop solenoid and hey presto, he was back on the road.

We should mention that he destroyed the top of the original pump when he was removing it, and also , we do not have the 4 digit code for the car.

Anyway, the car has been good for the last year, although when you start it, the key symbol is lit and there is a bleeper, both for 30 seconds.

He now wants to trade the car and would like to get rid of this annoying racket.

He physically removed the bleeper, but the central locking did not work, so he put it back in.

He also connected together the 2 spare wires that used to go to the pump, but no success either.

Has anyone got a really easy and cheap solution to this problem ?

You can, usually for a fee and proof of ID and vehicle ownership, get that 4 digit code from Citroen. I had to for my previous Xantia, and it cost about£10.

Yes , agreed , but then wouldn't we have to source the top and electronics from another Diesel Pump and code the whole lot together ?
