In Cranfield, a village near here, is a sign that points to the nearby villages of Astwood and Stagsden..

Every so often this sign is modified to read Astwood Slags...

the auto trader vehicle check on the plate produces

Vehicle details found: MWP416
BLACK, 1954 AUSTIN A40 SALOON

Well its not exactly black anymore! but I did think Somerset when I first saw it. From the ever reliable Wiki It was produced between 1952 an 1954 and it does look similar in style to this example of the breed in a nice beige.... nah thinking again its mushroom or magnolia isn't it :)

Jim's reference to other "County" variants inspired me to do a list from wiki of the "A" type vehicles made by Austin. They never quite got round to an Austin A1 Northumberland.

Oh and just to get back on topic....

Just round the corner from Fanny Street is Flora Street and guess what it has a pub called "The Flora" at the end of it.

No one has been brave enough yet to open a pub called "The Fanny" at the end of Fanny Street.

Image

The brewery is "Brains" so if we come to the concluion that Jim wasthe first one right with the A40 Somerset, then I think he is entitled to a pint of Brains.
