need some advice (before clutch fit)

Post by Harlequin »

having got a replacement `box and a new clutch kit , stripped ready to replace - but I have a worry.

now I got the parts from ECP , based on the part number from service citroen , the worry I have is this:

the old thrust release bearing had a snug fit on the guide sleeve , whereas the replacement (LUK made) has some play so it will rock when in use, also the bearing doesn't look anything like the one that came off the car , nor the picture on service citroen!

speaking to ECP they said the bearing was modified as per citroen specs and as long as the fork is in good condition any extra play wouldn't have an adverse effect.

ill put up a video , but im unsure what to do , they also brought out a brand new guide sleeve and the brand new bearing also had play on it.

it certainly should not have play in it at all,

i just dont use that bunch after a couple of dodgy components they sold me,
i prefer to use GSF

that's what I thought as the OE one is a good snug fit - the one I got was a LUK one from ECP and they are adamant its `ok` , theres a lot of play and im not confident in it

i would take the hole thing back to the bunch it came from and get a refund, then ask GSF hastings if they have got or can get a Valeo kit,

i think if you call GSF Hastings before 10am they can get items in from there gatwick branch on the morning van

thank you Malcom - called hastings this morning at 8 :D

they can get national or LUK clutch kits but not before tomorrow

well this is the weirdest thing ever - citroen uk have said its within acceptable tolerances and specification oO 2mm of slack is ok! - as long as it clips onto the fork then a little bit of movement is fine

ps.

if you really get stuck i have a couple of new trust bearings about somewhere,

wfrom were i have done clutch's on the likes of BX's and got a kit with the later bearing, then purchased the earlier bearing on its own,
as the kits with the earlier bearing were hard to source,

I think you're worrying uneccessarily. Bearings can often be quite a loose fit on the sleeve, as long as they are held securely in the fork it's not a problem. On the subject of ECP parts, as far as clutches are concerned they are fine. If the box is battered or looks a bit suspect you have to be careful someone hasn't returned something used and passed it off as new! LUK are generally a top brand, they are fitted as o.e. on BMW, VW and Ford among others. National are no where near the same quality as they are purely patterned part makers. Bearing carriers often look very different to the original.

thank you all - car is rebuilt *finally* and thank you to Malcom for the replacement clutch cable! - clutch is a dream , could even get away with 1 finger to press it! - gearbox was left standing so needs some use to loosen it properly , but its nice to have the car back on the road!
