C5 X7 occasionally no sound from audio system

Post by Vaske »

Hello everyone,

My c5 x7 occasionally has no sound from audio system. Sometimes it helps when I restart the unit but lately it is rarely successful. When I turn off the car I can hear a loud cranky sound from the speakers. This sound can be heard only after I have a sound from the audio system. No sound means no music, no navigation voice, no parking sensors beep... Unit is rt4 with latest firmware 8.3.
It was that way with previous fw versions too.

Does anyone had a problem like this or have a clue what should I do to fix it?

Thanks!

If you have access to DiagBox, run tests to see if the speakers are working properly, or if there are any detected errors with the audio output. If that doesn't help, pull the nav unit out, and disconnect and reconnect all the wires and cables, maybe the problem lies in a twisted/broken wire somewhere which causes problems ... reinstalling the firmware once more is also one possible action ...

I upgraded fw twice. First to 8.xx (I can't remember) and then when it was available I upgraded it to 8.31 and the problem persist. I don't know how to pull the nav unit out. Do I need some special tool or I can improvise?
I have only Torque Bluetooth diagnostic which is just basic one and it says that there is no errors. In the service they need the unit to be in non working state to determine the malfunction therefore there is no errors on their diag too.

Thank you!

As you look at the front of the RT4 there are 2 holes to the left and right, you need a Torx T20 (I think)unscrew these and the unit will slide out. BE VERY CAREFUL there is a short optical cable ribbon attached to the back of the head unit, don't break it, any information on the unit should be on a sticker on the top panel of the unit.

There are 3 plugs in the rear and one of those is the speaker, but I can't remember which one.
